I’m a Vet Nurse and my dog seemed completely normal.
Luna was eating, chewing and playing as normal. Even tugging her toys.

If I went just off her behaviour I would think there was nothing wrong.
Pets don’t show pain in the way we expect them too.

As part of a regular dental check, I found something.
A slab fracture of her carnassial tooth.

If you have had any dental issues, then you know how painful this could have been.

I have no idea when this happened or how long it had been fractured.

This is why regular dental checks are so important.

As an Advanced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a BVNA/BVDA Oral Care Nurse Certificate, I offer home visits for dental checks, and formulate a dental health plan for your pet.
Home visits mean no travel, no busy and loud waiting rooms, just a calm home environment and plenty of time to ensure your pet is comfortable.

If it’s been a while since your pets teeth were properly assessed or you want advice on how to care for your pets teeth, send me a message or email me ([email protected])

🐾 Parvovirus Update for Local Dog Owners 🐾

We are aware of speculation circulating on social media regarding possible cases of canine parvovirus in the Telford area.

💙 We'd like to reassure our clients that we have not seen any confirmed cases within our Telford branches, nor have we been notified of any confirmed local cases.

However, parvovirus is a serious disease, so it's always sensible to be aware of the signs and ensure your dog's vaccinations are up to date.

⚠️ What are the signs of parvovirus? 🐕 Lethargy or weakness
🤢 Vomiting
💩 Severe diarrhoea, sometimes bloody
🍽️ Loss of appetite
💧 Dehydration
🌡️ Fever

Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are particularly at risk and can become seriously unwell very quickly.

✅ How can you help prevent parvovirus? 💉 Keep your dog's vaccinations up to date
🧼 Practise good hygiene, especially around areas frequented by dogs
🐶 Avoid contact with sick dogs
🚶 Follow your vet's advice regarding where young puppies can safely socialise before they are fully vaccinated

If your dog develops any of the symptoms above, please contact your veterinary practice as soon as possible for advice.

As always, if there are any changes to the local situation, we will keep our clients informed. In the meantime, there is no need to panic, but it's a good opportunity to check that your dog's vaccinations are current and to remain vigilant for any signs of illness.

🐾 If you have any concerns about your dog's health or vaccination status, please get in touch with your local branch. 💙

Why does pet dental health matter? 🦷

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in pets. Personally, I brush my teeth twice a day and still need to see the dentist, so why should my pets be any different?

Early signs of periodontal disease is easy to miss, red gums or doggy breath. And they don’t seem urgent.

But if left, the disease can progress silently, leading to gum disease, tooth loss, gum recession, infection. It can even affect the heart and kidneys!

And through it all your pet will continue to eat. The signs will be there but they will be subtle. Taking longer to eat, chewing on one side, smelly breath, drooling, blood on toys/chews, aversion to having their face handled and more!

Regular dental maintenance doesn’t need to be stressful!

Alongside offering dental health checks and manual toothbrush desensitisation, keep an eye out for a new service coming soon 👀 a service that’s great for those pets that don’t get on with manual toothbrushing!

🐾 Meet Jonty. The sleepiest patient on my books! 😴

This is Jonty, a very handsome Border Terrier who I visit each month for his injection.

And when I say he is relaxed during his appointments, I mean REALLY relaxed.

After greeting me, Jonty simply curls up and sleeps through the whole thing. 🥹

This is particularly lovely because going into the vets can be a very different experience for him. The journey and stressful environment make him worried, whereas at home he’s completely in his comfort zone.

So instead of a stressful trip to the vets every month, Jonty can stay at home and have his treatment administered, while he’s relaxed and comfortable.

Honestly watching a patient sleep through their appointment is one of my favourite parts of being a mobile RVN. ❤️

It’s a great reminder that sometimes the environment we provide care in can make such a difference to how an animal experiences their treatment.

Jonty gets his monthly treatment. His owners get peace of mind. And Jonty gets to carry on with his day without the stress of a trip to the vets. 🐶💙

Sometimes the best place to care for a pet is right where they feel safest.

Excited to have invested in an emmi-pet ultrasonic toothbrush for Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services! 🦷🐾

Before I bring this to any clients, I wanted to trial it properly on my own two first, so tonight Lilly and Luna had their very first sessions. No sedation, no anaesthetic, no physical brushing, no vibrations, just gentle ultrasonic cleaning.

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, dental health is something I care about hugely, it’s one of the most overlooked areas of pet health. I’m so excited to start rolling this out to my clients soon!

Your know your pet is microchipped, but are your details up to date? 🐾

Today is gobal Check the Chip Day, so here’s your reminder to check your pet’s microchip details.

A microchip is only useful if the information linked to it is current.

Have you:
🏠 Moved house?
📱 Changed your phone number?
📧 Changed your email address?
👨‍👩‍👧 Changed ownership?
🏥 Changed veterinary practice?

If so, it’s worth checking your pet’s details.

You can use Petlog’s Microchip Checker (https://www.petlog.org.uk/look-up-a-microchip/) to find out which database your pet’s chip is registered with, then check that database has your current details.

And remember, a microchip and collar tag work best together. A collar can come off, but a microchip provides a permanent form of identification.

It only takes a few minutes to check, and it could make all the difference if your pet ever goes missing. ❤️

Go and check your pet’s chip!

Meet sweet Dilly 😍

I visited Dilly for a nail clip after she’d had a previous bad experience. Understandably, she was worried about having her paws handled.

This is the second visit I’ve done for Dilly.

The first thing she did? She greeted me with a wagging tail and got lots of belly rubs from me. ❤️

That shows me we’ve already started building trust.

We took everything at Dilly’s pace. Her back nails? She was an absolute superstar.

Her front paws were still a little more worrying for her, so we slowed things down, gave her plenty of breaks, celebrated every little success and, of course, rewarded her with lots of tasty treats.

For some dogs, nail clipping isn’t just about trimming nails. Each visit helps build confidence, making the next appointment that little bit easier.

I’m so proud of how well Dilly did, and I can’t wait to see her confidence continue to grow. 🥰
