Well that’s a wrap!
This spring and summer some 50 dogs and handlers have taken part in 14 Working Flatcoated Retriever Development Programme training days ranging from Foundation Level to Level 2B.

Our trainers have been fantastic, providing some fantastic ground and really informative training. With their support and encouragement all the dogs have made progress and the handlers have clear ideas on what to work on and how to achieve their goals. Thank you! And really well done to all who took part!

The groups have been delightful, really friendly, supportive and keen to learn.

With the start of the shooting season, do watch out for our WFRDP Level 2A “introduction to Game” training days with will be advertised shortly.

FCRS Novice Field Trial 2026

Our 12 dog breed only novice field trial will be on Saturday 19th December 2026 near Retford, Nottinghamshire.

The FCRS is delighted that so many handlers, trainers have taken part in the Working Flatcoated Retriever Development Programme this summer. (We’ve had 57 handlers and dogs taking part in 14 WFRDP training days this summer, working towards Foundation, Level 1 or Level 2B)
Pictured is Katie Aldred’s Geoff (Bakerstreet Charlie) who recently completed Level 2B of the WFRDP, having undertaken training WFRDP training in the Southern Area.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Flatcoated Retriever Society Puppy Page.
We have listened to feedback from Flatcoated Retriever owners not knowing where to go to purchase a responsibly bred puppy, as it can be a lottery out there.
We hope that the Puppy Page will be a service to ethical Breeders as well as genuine puppy purchasers once it is established.
We are grateful to our litter Secretaries, Shirley Johnson and Jenny Bird for all their years of service to the Society and breed. We are happy that they have agreed to work alongside this new initiative.
Shirley and Jenny are still the first point of call for a Breeder who wants to place their litter on the puppy page.
A form is available on the website for Breeders to download and fill in but it is for Shirley and Jenny to request you to do so.
For litters to be advertised on the website the Breeder agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics of the Flatcoated Retriever Society and also to abide by the Royal Kennel Club Best Practice.( Elbow scoring will be encouraged but not mandatory at this stage)

We ask for a donation of £20 to advertise a litter on the Puppy Page and this will be donated through the FCRS Health fund to Renal Dysplasia research.

The Canine Genetics Centre are excited to undertake new research to investigate the genetics of Renal Dysplasia (RD) in Flatcoated Retrievers, in the hope that we can identify genetic variants responsible for the disease and help breeders avoid breeding affected puppies in the future.

This research is funded and supported by the Flatcoated Retriever Society UK, Southern Flat Coated Retriever Club, Flatcoated Retriever Club of Scotland and the Northern England Flatcoated Retriever Association (NEFRA) - we are very grateful for your support ❤️

The Flatcoated Retriever Society UK 2027 Calendar is now available to order.
To get yours visit the Society shop page on their website https://www.flatcoated-retriever-society.org/shop/ where you can either download a printable order form or order via the online form (please be advised payment cannot be taken via the website, so payment will need to be made via either BACS, PayPal or Cheque, details of which can be found on the forms. Once payment is received the order will be posted).
Calendars will also be available at certain shows, so look out for updates on this.
All profits from the sale of the calendar will be divided equally between K9 SAR and Pet Blood Bank UK.
