……. And just like that another week is over!

I’d the pleasure of meeting the lovely 🌸 Maisie this morning. A little lady of mature years she was in for a scissor trim tidy and freshen up. A variety of tools after a lovely Hydrobath, a gentle dry, a wee rest in the middle and she was ready for home.

Happy weekend to all my lovely clients, human and furry! ❤️

Another day of boys!

🐶 Bear the Frenchie ‘you’re gonna do what to me?’ but he was happy to participate in his deshed 😊

🐶 Coupar the Westie was in for a handstrip. What a delightful gent he was, very tolerant of the experience 😊. Pic from mid strip.

A little & large kinda day!

🐶 Dudley the Cavapoo was first in today. He’s had a negative experience through grooming which has left him very scared and anxious in a grooming environment so a lot of trust to be built. He was a lovely little guy and his spins at the end showed he was none the worse for our session 😊

🐶 Milo the Lab dropped by in the afternoon for a deshed. His first experience at the groomers and he was a star 💙. A bit of modelling of our deshed outfits! 😂

Thanks to their Mum’s for choosing Hound Haven ❤️

Photo fail today on a grand scale!

🐶Buddy arrived promptly for his appt and left a fair bit of hair lighter and back looking like a Cavalier as Mum requested.

🐶 Basil the Sprocker was in next. His first groom and he did very well for a slightly nervous boy 😊

🐶 Charlie the Cocker Spaniel pup came in for a Puppy Intro. He wasn’t too sure about the experience but he left with nice feet!

🐶 Fourth and final today was Baxter. He came in for a short trim as he’s feeling the heat still 🥵

A bit of a mixed bag today!

🐝Bee and 🌸 Maybel arrived first. Bee was just getting nails done, Maybel was in for a specific trim. I think she enjoyed her Hydrobath experience 😊

🥴 Unfortunately I then had a no show. It’s my first one but was doubly disappointing as the dog very much needs to see a groomer urgently for severe matting. Possibly the owner has taken her elsewhere but it would have been nice to be informed.

The day then got better with the amazing 12 year old 💖 Lexi. Full of beans and not showing any signs of age.

Rocco closed my working week (off tomorrow for a swim weekend) by getting his nails trimmed. They’re super long with long quicks and it’s a work in progress. His new owners are taking him in regularly to get them sorted out 😊

I had the pleasure of meeting young 💙 Dylan today who came in for his first grooming experience which is the Puppy Intro. As with all the youngsters I just took things gently so he didn’t get a fright and cause him stress/anxiety further down the line. He has very tickly feet but we managed a bit of a pad trim once he’d checked the place out, had a bath, was dried on a slow drier and before he decided to try to clean my ears!

Torrential Tuesday, when everyone arrived already soaked! 🌧️

🐶 Toby was first in the door and certainly left drier than when he arrived!

🌸 Next came young Isla who Mum wanted to keep looking like the pup she is but with a good tidy up

💙 Bear the 5.5 month old GSD wasn’t too sure about some of the torture he was being put through 😂 but he was very good at guarding my garden while he was on the table. Well done Bear!

🐶 Simba closed the day with just a bath, dry and wee tidy up since he is recovering for an op but unfortunately has to get another one soon 😞. Dad was allowed to stay to help just incase he was needed!

Thank you all for trusting me with your precious pooches.

Information about your dogs nails.

Your dogs nails should be trimmed regularly every 4-8 weeks depending on speed of growth.

What happens if your dogs nails have not been cut and are overgrown? (Too long)

1. The quick lengthens, which means it will be quite the process to get them trimmed short again. Rarely an “easy fix”.
2. Your dog’s nail is more likely to get caught on something which can injure them resulting in an uncomfortable vet visit.
3. In extreme cases the nail can curl under and become embedded resulting in a very uncomfortable and pained dog in need of a vet visit.
4. When nails touch the ground your dogs weight will be distributed incorrectly. This results in:
Joint pain, arthritis issues.
5. Your dogs paws and toes will become painfully splayed out or even twisted.
6. Your dog could become paw sensitive, making future nail trims, grooming, etc very difficult
7. Make certain to check your dogs nails and keep them maintained. Never assume that the pavement has filed them down enough for good nail health.
8. When trimming always trim small slivers at a time, stopping when you see a black center of the nail, this means your next to the quick.
9. Your dog needs to be ok for nail trimming, this is an important life skill. Work with your dog, train your dog, find a patient groomer who won’t dangerously wrestle and traumatize them, making it even more difficult.

From today’s terrible pics I need to hire a pet photographer! 😂

🌸 Phoebe was in this morning after Rocco had his nails done. She wasn’t as big a fan of the grooming process as her brother Freddie was yesterday but I think she’s still speaking to me! 🤞

🐶 Tiny Bruno the Toy Cockerpoo pup was here later for his puppy intro. Dad requested a bit of a trim too if possible so Bruno left with a wee visor cut in to help him see through his fabulous fluffy coat, along with a bit of length taken off overall.

ℹ️ For those interested, a Puppy Intro is a great way to get your young pup used to the grooming environment; bathing, drying and nails trimmed and also to start the essential process of trusting the groomer. It also gives a groomer and owner the chance to get pup used to being held under the chin for working on faces rather than just landing this on an inexperienced/nervous older dog and expecting them to be able to cope with it.

Puppy Intro is 1hr, £40 and suitable for pups up to 9 months.
