Store Paws featured in House Beautiful!

We're pleased to have contributed expert dog training advice to the latest article in House Beautiful UK on choosing suitable pets for smaller homes.

From Border Terriers to Havanese and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, we discussed why understanding a dog's individual needs, temperament, exercise requirements and welfare considerations is so important when choosing a canine companion.

After all, a small dog doesn't necessarily have small needs, and the size of your home is only one factor to consider when deciding which breed may be right for you.

👻 SPIRIT HOUNDS IS BACK! 🎙️🐾

In S2 Ep1: Mediums, Moving Bread & Peculiar Pedigrees, we hear an incredible listener story involving some VERY specific messages apparently from beyond the grave — followed by something rather strange happening in the family kitchen.

Then we ask: what should we actually make of psychics and mediums? Genuine communication, cold reading, coincidence... or something we don't yet understand?

🐕 And in the dog section, we're travelling back 100 years to see just how dramatically humans have changed the appearance of some breeds — and asking what happens when selective breeding pushes physical characteristics to extremes.

We also take a closer look at the Innate Health Assessment and why assessing the health and functionality of the individual dog could help us think differently about canine welfare.

🎧 Series 2, Episode 1: Mediums, Moving Bread & Peculiar Pedigrees

🐾 Rosie’s story has been featured by the Innate Health Assessment (IHA).

Anyone who knows Rosie knows just how much this little dog has been through. She has undergone two spinal surgeries for Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), including emergency surgery after suddenly becoming paralysed last year.

We were recently invited to share Rosie’s story with the IHA as part of their work to raise awareness of how the physical characteristics we breed into dogs can affect their health and welfare.

It’s something we feel very strongly about.

Loving a breed shouldn’t mean that we can’t have honest conversations about the health problems affecting it. In fact, surely loving a breed means wanting future generations to be healthier?

Rosie is a very loved, very happy little Dachshund — but if sharing what she has been through helps prospective owners think more carefully about health, conformation and responsible breeding when choosing their future dog, then something positive can come from her experience.

Thank you to Vanessa and the Innate Health Assessment team for giving Rosie the opportunity to tell her story. ❤️🐾

🐾 **Guild Trainer of the Year 2026**

The Guild of Dog Trainers has opened nominations for its Trainer of the Year award, and I thought I would very tentatively put my name forward!

If I've worked with you and your dog and you feel that my training, advice or support has made a positive difference, I would be very grateful if you would consider nominating me.

There's no testimonial to write or lengthy form to complete — you simply need to enter my name (Davina Evans) and submit your vote:

https://godt.uk/godt-trainer-nominations/

I know how much trust it takes to ask someone for help with your dog, particularly when things aren't going quite to plan, so I'm always incredibly grateful to the people who choose Store Paws and allow me to be part of their dog's journey.

Thank you, as always, for your support. 💚🐾

🐾🎓 Congratulations to Biscuit – our latest Store Paws Graduate! 🎓🐾

Today was a very special day as Biscuit officially graduated from his training programme with Store Paws Dog Training Service!

When we first met, Biscuit and his family were facing a few challenges, but through patience, consistency and lots of positive reinforcement, they've made fantastic progress together.

Today he received his Graduation Certificate, Graduation Report and his very own Store Paws Graduate rosette (and looked rather smart in his graduation cap too! 🎓).

The best part of my job isn't teaching dogs to sit or stay – it's giving owners the confidence to understand their dogs and enjoy life together.

Congratulations, Biscuit! I'm so proud of everything you've achieved. ❤️🐾

If you're looking for kind, ethical, reward-based dog training with an award-winning local trainer, I'd love to help.

Our little Rosie's IVDD experience(s) were discussed on an IVDD episode of the Petgevity Podcast (they published it in July to coincide with National IVDD Awareness Month).
Really interesting listen. Fabian Rivers discusses with Dr Mark Lowrie how to identify the symptoms, management, explanation of the surgery, post-surgery expectations, risk reduction, screening tests for breeders, etc...
