In honour of International Dog Day, we'd love to share the story of Robin - a beautiful 9-year-old German Shepherd, the goodest boy, and one of the strongest patients we've ever had the privilege of caring for...

Robin has been through so much. In January 2024, he was diagnosed with large-cell lymphoma and underwent extensive treatment at a referral centre, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Despite everything he has faced, Robin fought through it all and is currently in remission.

Today, we're lucky enough to be part of Robin's journey, regularly checking on him, managing his ongoing needs and treating any issues that arise, helping him stay comfortable and enjoy life to the fullest.

His story is a wonderful reminder of just how incredibly resilient our pets can be. Through every challenge, Robin has continued to show strength, courage and so much love.
We are so proud of you, Robin. Keep going and keep being the incredible dog you are. 🐾❤️

5 things to do if you think your pet has heatstroke ☀️

1. Move them out of direct sunlight
Move them into a cool, well ventilated area. Use a fan if available.

2. Start cooling them with water
Gently wet their body. Avoid ice cold water or ice.

3. Offer small amounts of fresh water
Do not force them to drink.

4. Contact your vet immediately
Seek veterinary advice as soon as possible. Heatstroke can be life-threatening and requires urgent veterinary attention.

5. Continue cooling during transport
If it is safe to do so, keeping the car well ventilated or using the air conditioning.

When temperatures rise, some animals are more vulnerable to heatstroke than others. Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, pets with thick coats, young and elderly pets, overweight animals, and those with underlying health conditions can all be at higher risk.

But remember, any animal can suffer from heatstroke in hot weather, so it’s important to keep a close eye on your pets and make sure they always have access to shade, fresh water and a cool environment. 🌡️

Keep an extra eye on your furry friends during the heatwave and never leave them in a hot car, conservatory or other poorly ventilated space. ❤️
