🌍 As Anglican churches around the world celebrate the new Festival of Creation in Christ this weekend, we’re reminded that the earth is not simply a resource to be used, but a precious gift to be received, cherished and protected.

Our upcoming retreat, in partnership with Candied Appeal, offers a timely opportunity to explore what this means for us as followers of Jesus:

Through reflection, conversation and time surrounded by Shallowford’s beautiful grounds, we’ll consider the environmental crisis through the lens of Christian faith - reconnecting with creation as a gift, rediscovering our calling as stewards, and resting in God’s enduring care for all He has made.

🐑 BREAKING EWES FROM SHALLOWFORD:

“All we like sheep have gone astray...” - Isaiah 53:6

Today, that scripture became unexpectedly literal!

These woolly wanderers slipped through a break in the fence from a neighbouring farm and decided to explore Shallowford’s nature reserve.

They hadn’t booked, ignored reception entirely, and seemed determined to sample the all-inclusive grass and hawthorn menu. Still, we can hardly fault their choice of venue!

Where do your best ideas find room to come alive?

The weather has turned noticeably cooler over the past few days, and as summer begins to ebb towards autumn, our thoughts naturally turn to the months ahead.

The view from the desk in our Reading Room remains a favourite spot from which to watch the seasons change: a peaceful corner overlooking the front lawn, with space to think, reflect and work without distraction.

Whether you are writing a book, preparing a talk, developing a project or simply need some quiet time to gather your thoughts, Shallowford offers the stillness and space that can be so difficult to find elsewhere.

🥰We are hugely grateful to the volunteers who give their time, energy and skill to help with everything from planting and clearing to fencing, maintenance and caring for the wider work of Shallowford. Their dedication makes a real and visible difference to the life of this place.

Looking ahead to our upcoming Garden Working Party Residential, volunteers will gather to help with practical work around the grounds, enjoy time together, and contribute to the ongoing care of the estate.
