At 47, my skin goals remain the same; skin quality, vitality, and its sustainable long-term health. For me, that means achieving naturally resilient skin, so I am a big fan of 'pro-ageing' & 'slow-ageing'. (I've never had Botox and never plan to. I don't use harsh Retinol on my skin. I don't use photo filters or re-rouching.)

Synthetic ingredients can be harsh, damaging the skin barrier. Part of slow-ageing is longevity and wellness. Given that the cumulative long-term health effects of synthetic chemical ingredients are uncertain, I passionately believe in skincare purely made with non-toxic, organic botanicals which are regenerative and anti-inflammatory: I created my high-performance handcrafted formulations based on that criteria 🌿✨️.

Some facts about my own skincare routine & habits:
~ I swear by 100% organic waterless skincare, oil-based cleansing, and daily face yoga.
~ I practice mindfulness / self-care regularly and drink green tea (and A LOT of water!)
~ I support from the inside too by taking daily collagen supplements.

I think pro-ageing / slow-ageing is far more positive (and less pressurising!) than the 'anti-ageing' approach. I don't want to strive to look like I'm still 20, but instead be happy and confident with soft, radiant skin, which is healthy- thanks to pure plant power 🌿. Do you agree?

Over time, there is a natural reduction in skin barrier lipids because our skins epidermis becomes thinner. This causes increased moisture loss. Combine that with harsh, synthetic skincare ingredients, and this can cause damage/ irritation by disrupting the skin's barrier. (E.g. Retinol and also preservatives / emulsifiers contained in water-based skincare).

😥 Signs of a damaged skin barrier:

- Chronic dryness: Leading to flaking, tightness, and rough texture.

- Increased sensitivity

- Inflammation: Triggering conditions like eczema, rosacea, or acne.

- Accelerated ageing: Dehydration makes fine lines look deeper.

✨️ How to defend your skin barrier;

✔️ Wash face with lukewarm water

✔️ Use gentle, fragrance-free cleansers. (Plant oil-based cloth cleansing is effective and gentle).

✔️ Apply skincare rich in fatty acids, ceramides anti-inflammatories, antioxidants, and vitamins. (Organic, waterless skincare is chock full with these.)

✔️ Wear sunscreen daily

✔️ Avoid over-exfoliating

➡️ Waterless skincare works in harmony with our skin, protecting the outer skin barrier, sealing in moisture- so skin feels hydrated and smoother. It excludes the synthetic chemicals - such as preservatives and emulsifiers, which can be our skin barrier's enemy.

Age spots are primarily caused by long-term UV sun exposure. Even with high SPF sunscreen during the summer months they can still appear.

Some choose to opt for methods such as harsh chemical peels or dermabrasion. However, there is a much gentler way to help reduce these and eventually even disappear. The answer is skincare high in antioxidants.

After many, many months of research, I carefully selected only antioxidant rich, rejuvenating plant oils for my handcrafted skincare. I use certified organic plant oils so they are at their purest and most potent (to deliver the optimum results whilst also being planet- friendly);

✨️Here are my favourites and why-

🌿 Pomegranate Seed Oil – high in vitamin E tocopherols which are potent antioxidants, plus anti-inflammatory punicic acid and phytosterols for skin repair and regeneration.

🌿 Rosehip Seed Oil- contains rejuvenating antioxidants vitamin A and Linoleic acid, known to help boost the skin’s natural defences against UV rays. Reduces hyperpigmentation.

🌿 Raspberry Seed Oil- high in vitamin E. Contains carotenoids which are converted into vitamin A. Contains antioxidant Ellagic Acid.

🌿 Grapeseed Oil- Packed with powerful antioxidants such as polyphenols e.g proanthocyanidin, which protect the skin and fade age spots. High in antioxidants Linoleic acid omega-6 fatty acid and vitamin E.

Now it is getting milder, and the days longer, it's the perfect time to get outside in nature more often- to boost your wellbeing 💗.
Spending time in nature actively heals by reducing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, improving mood, lowering blood pressure, and boosting immune function. Research suggests that just 20 minutes a day outdoors can significantly improve mental health. Ramp up the effects by practising some mindfulness.

Mindfulness means slowing down and using our senses to truly be present in the moment. This quietening of the mind and appreciating natural beauty is an invaluable part of our self-care 🙏

Nature is fragile, vulnerable, and needs nurturing too. We all need to do our bit to protect the future of our precious planet.
