Meet Leo 🐾
Leo is a sweet Bichon Frisé cross who has recently come into foster care and is now looking for his forever home.
Leo is a loving and affectionate boy once he gets to know you. Like many dogs of his breed type, he can also be a little stubborn at times, so he will need owners who understand his personality and are willing to provide clear boundaries and consistent guidance.
He is fully house-trained and can be left home alone without any issues. Before coming into rescue, Leo was regularly left for up to eight hours while his owner was out, although his routine has changed since being in foster care.
We're told Leo behaves well at the groomers, although he can be a little sensitive about having his claws trimmed. He is due for a grooming appointment next week, which will give us a better idea of how he copes. His claws should improve naturally as he settles into a routine of regular walks, something he sadly missed out on in his previous home.
Walking is currently Leo's biggest challenge. Because he hasn't had much experience of the outside world, he becomes very excited when out and about. He may squeak, whine, or occasionally bark if he can't cross the road quickly enough or when he sees people and other dogs. He also tends to gallop rather than walk calmly on the lead. Leo will need a patient and understanding adopter who is committed to ongoing training and helping him build confidence. We believe that as regular walks become part of his daily routine, much of this excitement will lessen.
Recall training is another area that will need work, as it has never previously been taught.
Leo can be protective of high-value treats such as bones if someone attempts to take them away, although he shows no food aggression around his food bowl.
Car travel is not Leo's favourite activity. He generally settles while the vehicle is moving, but can become vocal when it stops. As travelling is still relatively new to him, using a crate for journeys is currently the safest option.
Leo is also not particularly comfortable at the vets and was quite vocal during his recent neutering visit, even after surgery.
Despite these areas where he needs support, Leo is a fun-loving, active little dog with so much potential. He would thrive in an active home that can provide plenty of exercise, structure, training, patience, and, most importantly, love.
He previously lived with two teenagers and two younger children, but we feel he would be best suited to a home with children aged 10 years and over.
With the right family willing to invest time in his development, Leo will make a wonderful and loyal companion. ❤️
