September has been a lovely month for Rachel's Cat Sitting Company.

I've been getting to know some lovely cats, learning all their different routines and personalities, and doing what I enjoy most — making sure cats are happy and comfortable in their own homes while their owners are away.

Thank you to everyone who's followed the page, recommended me, booked with me or simply stopped by to say hello.

As a small local business, it really does mean a lot.

And if you're new here, welcome. I'm Rachel, this is my little cat-sitting business, and Freddie is usually somewhere nearby making sure I don't get too carried away.

Here's to plenty more cats, cuddles and slightly chaotic cat personalities.

It's often the little things that matter when you're looking after someone's cat.

Knowing which cupboard the food is in is useful.

Knowing which treats they're allowed is important.

But knowing that they only drink from that particular bowl, or that they like you to sit on the floor rather than stand over them, or that they hide when they hear the postman...

Those are the details I like to learn.

Because cat sitting isn't just about putting food in a bowl and changing a litter tray.

It's about getting to know the cat you're looking after and making sure they feel safe, comfortable and cared for while their owners are away.

A little reminder that if you're going away and need someone to pop in on your cat, I offer home visits around Durham City, Sherburn Hill and surrounding villages.

Cats can stay in their own familiar surroundings and keep to their normal routines while you're away.

I offer a free meet and greet before your first booking, so we can meet, talk through their routine and make sure you're happy with everything.

Visits are £13 per day and include feeding, fresh water, litter tray cleaning, playtime, cuddles and plenty of attention, along with photo updates.

One of my favourite things about cat sitting is discovering all the little personalities.

There are the confident cats who greet you at the door.

The ones who need a little time before they'll come anywhere near you.

The food enthusiasts who somehow know exactly when dinner is due.

The ones who want to play.

The ones who want cuddles.

And the ones who look at you as though you're simply staff who have finally arrived to do your job.

Every cat has their own way of doing things, and that's why I like taking the time to get to know them rather than treating every visit exactly the same.

Your cat's home. Their rules.

So, what actually happens during a cat-sitting visit?

Every visit is a little different because every cat is different.

I check they're happy and well, give them their food and fresh water, clean their bowls and litter tray, and make sure everything is as it should be.

Then there's usually some combination of playtime and cuddles.

I also send photo updates, because I know how much nicer it is to be away knowing you can see your cat is happy and settled at home.

Going away and leaving your cat at home?

One of the things I always think about is keeping things as normal as possible.

Cats are creatures of habit, so keeping their usual feeding times, favourite sleeping spots and familiar routines can help them feel settled while you're away.

It can also be helpful to leave clear instructions for your sitter about the little things that make your cat's day their normal day.

Where they like to eat.
Where they like to hide.
What they like to play with.
How they let you know they're hungry.

The little details are often what make the biggest difference.
