All Seasons Mantrailing

I have just shared with my regular trailing clients a few slides on indications in mantrailing to dispel some of the myths about them.

My preference has always been to work on these in dedicated workshops rather than at the end of a complicated trail, we can then add them into every days trail once the dog has the understand!

Factory reset on the weather here in Dorset this morning! 🌧️🐾

After weeks of sunshine and dry ground, the waterproofs were firmly back out today — and I think humans and dogs needed a minute to remember how this whole wet-weather thing works!

Four Labradors and one Cocker Spaniel joined me for a very soggy morning of mantrailing, with plenty of thinking, plenty of sniffing and some really lovely work from all five teams.

Different conditions bring different challenges, and wet weather changes the scent picture too, so there was lots for the dogs to process as we settled back into autumnal-feeling trails.

A great morning, despite Dorset apparently skipping straight past the end of summer and hitting the factory reset button. 😂

Waterproofs: tested.
Dogs: soggy.
Brains and noses: thoroughly worked. ✅

Trailing update!

I have been quiet of late as with the change in weather we have been busy trailing, doing Scentwork and getting these dogs noses going.

Last week was full on, in trailing alone we covered:
-Decoys
-Mispers behaving strangely
-Trailing past sculpture
-Evening trails, as we start to lose some light
-Real world distractions
-Long trails
-Contaminated starts

So here’s a few pics of that and I’ll update on what the scentwork dogs have been doing asap!

I have a couple of spaces available in my Thursday afternoon Scentwork groups, starting at the end of September.

This class is for dogs and handlers who are already doing scentwork and want to continue developing their skills in a regular group.

We work on a real mix of searches and skills — different environments, search problems, handling, indications, distractions and plenty of opportunities to see how your dog tackles something new.

It’s quite unusual for me to have spaces available in this group, so if you’re interested, drop me a message for more details.
