I have had Morgan for a few years now, and today was the first time I was able to lean over her back while on the mounting block. When I first got Morgan, she had negative associations with the mounting block and anything placed over her back due to past trauma. Over time, I have worked to make the mounting block a positive experience for her, and now she comes for scratches when I stand on it, which is such a huge improvement.

I've been taking my time with the backing process with Morgan, as there were many other behaviours and issues we needed to work through first, such as cooperative care, resource guarding and her fear of people.

I didn't get Morgan with the intention of riding her, so there really is no rush or pressure to get her to a point of being ridden. I believe there is so much more to horses than just riding, and I truly enjoy working with her on the ground. If she doesn't enjoy being ridden or never reaches that point, I’m perfectly fine with that.
