I can’t believe it’s happening again… 🥲💔
I’ve known for a little while that Oreo’s breathing has become more laboured, and sadly, I know the signs all too well when it comes to heart murmurs in small dogs, especially Chihuahuas.
After losing my beautiful Layla and Pedro within 8 months of each other, I had really hoped the years ahead would be kinder to Oreo (8)and Nellie(8)❤️ Which for chihuahuas isn’t old they have a good life span and can live well into their later years.
Today’s vet visit confirmed what I feared for Oreo, but what I wasn’t expecting was to hear that Nellie has a heart murmur too. 💔 She is, after all, the daughter of both Oreo and Layla, so she carries both of their genetics.
For now, Oreo is starting on Vetmedin to help support his heart, and hopefully he can continue doing what he loves most — chasing those squirrels 🐿️ around the field and enjoying life for many more years to come. ❤️
Nellie’s murmur is currently only a grade 3 out of 6, so thankfully she can still live a happy, active life. We’ll keep a close eye on her and, when the time comes, she can go onto the same medication if she needs it.
It never gets any easier, does it? 🥺
But sadly, it’s part and parcel of loving our pooches as deeply as we do. They give us so much love, happiness and memories that we wouldn’t change for the world. ❤️🐾
So for now, we’re taking every day as it comes, making memories, chasing squirrels and giving them both even more cuddles than usual. 🥰🐾❤️
