🐾☀️ BIRTHDAY SNOGS, SAUSAGES & A WEE MIRACLE 🎂😂
What a cracking day we’ve had at K9 Expeditions! The sun was shining, the dogs were happy, nobody disgraced themselves too badly and, brace yourselves, I actually finished work at a reasonable hour!
I know. I’m as shocked as you are. 😂
THE BOYS WERE OUT FIRST! 🐾
Jensen and Callum kicked things off with Ruby, Brax and Bear, who enjoyed their morning adventures before the lads headed off to collect our lovely new boy, Bruce. ❤️
Now, poor Bruce is having a bit of bother with his hips at the moment, so he’s on restricted exercise. No charging about like a lunatic, no mountaineering and absolutely no auditioning for the canine Olympics!
But just because his hips are being awkward doesn’t mean he has to become a social recluse!
So Lexi and George joined him for a gentle half-hour stroll and a bit of canine conversation.
Once Bruce had done his allotted exercise, Jensen took him home while Callum carried on with Lexi and George.
Now, before anyone starts worrying that we’ve sent the apprentice off into the wilderness unsupervised, Lexi and George are actually Callum’s own dogs.
So if they misbehave, he can’t even blame the Walker! 🤣
MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE MADHOUSE…
My first walk was with Nellie and Parker.
We headed to the big field for a good old blast because Parker had some serious training lined up later, and I thought it only fair to let him shake all his sillies out before asking him to put his sensible pants on and locate his brain cell. We didn’t want the poor little thing having to compete with all that nonsense rattling around in his head! 😂🤣
Nellie, naturally, was more than happy to assist with this important scientific process. 😂
And then it was time for the social event of the season…
🎂 CHESTER’S BIRTHDAY BASH! 🎂
Now, we don’t do things by halves at K9 Expeditions.
Chester brought the fish and chips, I supplied the sausages, and the boys apparently decided the entertainment would be an unsolicited kissing competition.
And good grief, were they feeling affectionate today! 😳😂
Poor Ted bore the brunt of it.
At one point, Fred and Chester had him cornered and were tag-teaming him with sloppy kisses like a pair of overenthusiastic aunties at a family wedding!
Ted looked like he’d accidentally wandered into the wrong nightclub and couldn’t find the exit. 🤣
Meanwhile, Spicy was thanking his lucky stars for being vertically challenged.
He managed to slip completely under the radar while the snogging epidemic swept through the group.
For once, being knee-high to a grasshopper was a distinct advantage!
I swear, if these boys had opposable thumbs, they’d have been buying each other drinks and exchanging phone numbers. 😂😂
Honestly, what a bunch of absolute fruit loops. I love them to bits! ❤️
PARKER PUTS HIS BIG BOY PANTS ON! 🌟
Once we’d recovered from the birthday shenanigans, Nellie, Parker and I headed up to the Hub for some proper training.
Recall and heel work were on the agenda, which meant Parker had to temporarily stop being a professional clown and engage the grey matter.
And do you know what?
HE WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT! 👏
His recall was fantastic, his heel work was lovely, and he worked his little socks off.
I was genuinely so proud of him!
We finished with a game of ball as his reward, because training shouldn’t be all work and no play.
Although I suspect Parker would happily exchange his entire education for a tennis ball and a ginger biscuit. 😂
THE THREE AMIGOS! 🐾❤️
Next stop was our lovely trio, who are fortunate enough to live in a beautiful spot with their very own paddock.
Talk about having it made!
Some dogs have to travel miles to find a decent bit of grass. These three have practically got their own country estate!
Our visits are more of a welfare check and a bit of quality time. We have a few laps of the paddock, play some ball, do a little training and generally provide the afternoon entertainment.
And then there’s Mia. ❤️
The beautiful old lady.
Mia has reached that wonderful stage of life where she has absolutely no intention of doing anything she doesn’t fancy.
A bit of a potter? Perhaps.
A cuddle? Absolutely.
A good bum scratch? Now you’re talking!
Anything resembling strenuous exercise? You can sod right off, thank you very much. 😂
She spent some time lying in the lovely autumn sunshine today, looking thoroughly content with her lot.
And when she’d had enough, she simply took herself back inside.
No discussion. No negotiations. Her ladyship had spoken.
I absolutely adore her. There’s something so lovely about watching an older dog enjoying the simple pleasures in life. ❤️
AND THEN SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENED… 😱
I FINISHED EARLY!
Not only did I finish early, but I actually managed to get some admin done before bedtime!
I know, I know. Somebody alert the authorities.
Usually I’m still sitting at the computer at stupid o’clock, looking like a Victorian chimney sweep who’s just been informed she’s got another twelve-hour shift.
But today? Organised. Efficient. Almost professional.
I’m considering having a certificate made to commemorate the occasion. 🤣
Katie is absolutely raring to go tomorrow and will be back doing pick-ups before meeting Jensen and his groups.
So the gang will be back out in force, causing their usual brand of organised chaos!
And what a gorgeous day it’s been.
Sunny, fresh, not too warm and just perfect for the dogs.
I absolutely love these autumn days. 🍂☀️
We’ve had youngsters learning, oldies pottering, a poorly boy enjoying some gentle company, a birthday boy dishing out snogs like they’re going out of fashion and one very surprised dog walker who managed to finish work before the bats came out.
And that’s what I love about this job.
No two dogs are the same, no two days are the same, and sometimes the best thing you can give a dog isn’t a massive walk. It’s a bit of company, some individual attention, a cuddle or simply the freedom to enjoy life at their own pace.
Although, judging by today’s antics, some of them would apparently prefer a full-on romantic encounter with their mates! 🤣
