๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ HOT WEATHER WARNING FOR DOG OWNERS โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ
As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heatstroke in our dogs.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Dogs can overheat quickly, even on days that don't feel excessively hot to us.
โš ๏ธ Signs of Heatstroke:
โ€ข Excessive panting
โ€ข Drooling
โ€ข Bright red gums
โ€ข Lethargy or weakness
โ€ข Vomiting or diarrhoea
โ€ข Collapse or seizures
๐Ÿšซ Avoid:
โ€ข Walking during the hottest parts of the day
โ€ข Intense exercise
โ€ข Leaving dogs in cars (even for a few minutes)
โ€ข Hot pavements that can burn paws
โœ… Instead:
โ€ข Walk early morning or late evening
โ€ข Provide plenty of fresh water
โ€ข Offer shade and cool resting areas
โ€ข Use enrichment activities indoors
โ€ข Check pavement temperature with the back of your hand for 7 seconds before walking
Remember: If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog.
Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you suspect your dog is overheating:
โ„๏ธ Move them to a cool area
๐Ÿ’ง Offer small amounts of water
๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Use cool (not ice-cold) water on their body
๐Ÿ“ž Contact your vet immediately
Stay safe and keep those tails wagging this summer!

Here are some fun hot-weather ideas you could share:
๐Ÿง  Scent Games
Dogs naturally love using their noses.
๐Ÿพ Scatter feeding in the grass
๐Ÿพ Hide treats around the house
๐Ÿพ "Find It" games with favourite toys
๐Ÿพ Scent trails leading to a jackpot reward
Just 10โ€“15 minutes of sniffing can be surprisingly tiring.
๐ŸงŠ Frozen Treat Activities
Perfect for helping dogs cool down.
๐Ÿพ Frozen Kongs stuffed with wet food
๐Ÿพ Lick mats with dog-safe peanut butter, yoghurt, banana, or pate
๐Ÿพ Frozen carrot sticks
๐Ÿพ Ice cubes with treats frozen inside
Licking can have a calming effect and helps regulate arousal levels.
๐ŸŽ“ Trick Training
Short 5-minute sessions indoors can be very tiring.
๐Ÿพ Spin
๐Ÿพ Paws up
๐Ÿพ Touch
๐Ÿพ Roll over
๐Ÿพ Tidy up toys
๐Ÿพ Find named objects
Learning uses a lot of mental energy and builds confidence.
๐Ÿ“ฆ DIY Enrichment Boxes
Use cardboard boxes, newspaper, and toilet roll tubes.
๐Ÿพ Hide treats inside
๐Ÿพ Create a "shred box"
๐Ÿพ Layer different textures for them to investigate
Great for dogs who enjoy problem-solving.
๐Ÿถ Calmness Challenges
Teach dogs how to relax.
๐Ÿพ Settle on a mat
๐Ÿพ Relaxation protocol exercises
๐Ÿพ Reward calm behaviour around distractions
Especially useful for puppies and reactive dogs.
๐ŸŒŠ Water Play
For dogs that enjoy water.
๐Ÿพ Paddling pool
๐Ÿพ Floating toys
๐Ÿพ Frozen toys in shallow water
๐Ÿพ Sprinkler games (if your dog enjoys them)
Never force water activities if your dog isn't a fan.
๐Ÿ– Food Puzzle Games
๐Ÿพ Snuffle mats
๐Ÿพ Treat balls
๐Ÿพ Puzzle feeders
๐Ÿพ Muffin tin game (treats hidden under tennis balls)
These encourage problem-solving and slow down feeding.
๐Ÿ‘€ "Watch the World" Sessions
One of the most overlooked forms of enrichment.
๐Ÿพ Sit in a shaded area
๐Ÿพ Watch people, dogs, wildlife, or traffic pass by
๐Ÿพ Reward calm observation
This provides valuable environmental enrichment without physical exertion.
๐Ÿพ The 15-Minute Rule
During hot weather, remember:
15 minutes of sniffing, licking, chewing, or problem-solving can often be more tiring and beneficial than a rushed walk in unsafe temperatures.
