Gait analysis technology

Did you know we’ve been using gait analysis software for some time now.

What does it do?
It uses AI technology to track hip, trunk and head movements to help identify lameness and gait asymmetries.

Why?
* Helps to identify subtle lameness.
* Helps to identify multi limb lameness.
* Helps to track changes and improvements in lameness following diagnostic nerve blocks or treatment.
*Tracks changes in gait over a long period of time.

Help identify subtle lameness or give you confidence that you’re on track with your horse this autumn.
We’ve had fantastic weather this summer and so our horses have been busy and working hard for us. End of season gait analysis is a great way to identify and treat any problems early.

We are offering gait analysis for £45 per horse in our standard visit area when there are 4 or more horses booked in.
We need a hard flat area to trot up, a soft surfaced area to lunge and someone to trot up and longe your horse ( this can be you) .

Your horse’s health doesn’t stop in the stable! 🩺

Horses living together share more than their fields, water buckets and grooming spaces — they can also share infectious diseases. When horses live together, their health is connected.

Keeping vaccinations up to date is an important part of protecting your horse, but it’s also about helping to reduce the risk of disease spreading through your yard or group of horses.

Regular health checks allow us to make sure your horse is in good condition and that their preventative healthcare plan is right for them — whether they’re a competition horse, happy hacker, youngster or veteran.

If you’re unsure whether your horse’s vaccinations or routine healthcare are up to date, get in touch with our team — we’re always happy to advise. 💉🐎

Case of the Week: A Kick in the Field 🐎

We recently visited a pony who had unfortunately been kicked in the field. On examination, we were concerned about a significant injury, so we performed X-rays on site, which confirmed a fractured splint bone.

We were able to remove the fractured splint bone fragments under standing sedation at the yard, avoiding the need for a general anaesthetic. Once the fragments were removed, the wound was carefully sutured, and we continued treatment with regular bandage changes and wound management.

We’re delighted to say that this little pony is now doing really well and is comfortable! 🥰🐎
A great example of how prompt assessment, on-site diagnostics and appropriate surgical treatment can make such a difference to an equine patient’s recovery.

QUIZ OF THE WEEK!
Can you guess what’s in our hands? 👀💧

Here are a few hints:
- It came from an equine patient.
- It’s hard, round, and has a very distinctive texture.
- It formed somewhere in the urinary system.
- It’s something our veterinary team occasionally encounters in horses.

What do you think it is? Drop your guess in the comments! ⬇️

Jupiter the donkey 🫏

Meet Jupiter, a lovely donkey who we recently visited at his yard after his owners became concerned about his breathing.
After examination, we performed a thoracic ultrasound and a tracheal wash at the yard, allowing us to investigate what was happening in his airways and ultimately diagnose equine asthma.
We discussed a number of management changes with Jupiter’s owners to help reduce the amount of dust and spores he was exposed to, both in his diet and his environment. We also started him on steroid treatment to help reduce the inflammation in his airways.
We’re delighted to say that Jupiter is now doing really well! He’s back to enjoying life out in the field, with only minimal breathing problems — a fantastic result for this gorgeous boy. ☺️

Asthma in horses 🫁
Equine asthma is a common cause of coughing, nasal discharge and increased or difficult breathing. It is often associated with exposure to dust, moulds and other airborne particles, and management of the horse’s environment and diet can play an important role alongside veterinary treatment.
If you’re concerned about your horse’s breathing, we can help investigate the cause, including performing respiratory examinations and, where appropriate, procedures such as airway sampling and ultrasound. We can then work with you to develop a tailored treatment and management plan to help your horse breathe more comfortably and enjoy life to the fullest. Get in contact to discuss your pony’s breathing today 🐴💙
