They are finally here! Eeeekkk!! 🦔🦔🦔🦔

Our brand-new specialist hedgehog rehab pods are here and installed in the hoglet nursery!

They weren't cheap, but they are high quality, top of the range and built to last, making them an invaluable investment for the rescue and will go on to help countless hedgehogs and hoglets for years and years to come 🥹💚🦔

Two of the hoglets that came in separately a few weeks ago are now maintaining their own body temperatures and are big enough to graduate from their incubators — just in time to be the very first babies in our new pods!

They already seem to be loving the extra space and the separate nest area is quite noval to them🥰🙏🦔

A huge thank you to everyone in our community whose donations made this possible. We are so grateful to you and we truly could not have done this without your support! 💖🫶🦔🤎

We feel incredibly lucky to have everyone standing behind our wildlife rescue, helping it grow and grow, enabling us to help even more animals in need 🥹🙏

Thank you everyone! 💚

THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE !
YOU HAVE SAVED US!
THE WILDLIFE RESCUE AND HEDGEHOG HOSPITAL IS OFFICIALLY SAFE !!
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

The community has spoken loud and clear, you refused to let our wildlife rescue disappear and with this kind of backing from you all, we are becoming better than ever!!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. 💖

Words genuinely cannot capture our gratitude to every single person whose donated, shared and stood behind our little rescue.

You didn’t just meet our goal to keep our doors open and our rescue wheels turning – you blew it completely out of the water, raising four times the amount we needed to survive!! 🥹🙏

Because of your extraordinary generosity, the communities wildlife rescue and hedgehog hospital is now completely and utterly safe from closure. 🥳🙏

Every single one of you who donated has done that and we are completely and utterly overwhelmed with the response we have had.
With everybody’s help, we’ve not only managed to stay open, we actually have the ability now to expand AND replace all of our old, secondhand equipment.

Hedgehog Hospital expansion:
An extra 4 brand-new specialist hedgehog units have been ordered and are being delivered this week allowing us to care for even more patients in a top-tier clinical environment, plus a further 4 are on order and being made specially for us.

Outdoor pre-release pens:
We are also able to build specially designed pre-release enclosures for the hedgehogs so that our growing hoglets can take their first few steps outside, with the continued ongoing support from us, and adults to build up their strength, all in a safe environment while we observe that they have the skills and ability to safely transition back to the wild when they are big enough and strong enough for full release.

We are also expanding our specialist raptor facilities creating more outside spaces for once injured and recovering birds of prey to also help them to transition back to the wild safely.

Brand-new equipment:
We can finally retire that painfully old and secondhand equipment and replace it with brand new reliable, modern equipment that means we can now quickly diagnose things like parasite burdens, blood smears and skin scraps on-site.
Every animal that comes through our doors are tested for parasites and with our new microscope we can now efficiently diagnose any unwanted visitors and treat them quickly and effectively, helping to save even more lives and get them back to the wild faster.

Thank you for every single pound, every single share, all the wishlist donations that came, and still are, flooding in and every kind word.
You’ve given our local wildlife a secure future and you have given us the greatest gift of all knowing that you are all behind us and that we can keep on fighting for those without a voice, every single day.

With more love, ridiculous amount of relief, happy tears and an overwhelming gratitude than mere words can ever express....

from all the animals and all of us at Wild Surrey Wildlife Rescue.... You did it!!

Thank you just doesn't seem enough...
💚🙏🥹🥰💖🙌🙏💚

Wild Surrey Wildlife Rescue
✋ IMPORTANT INFORMATION UPDATE ✋
(Sitting here in absolute despair 🥺)

SADLY, DUE TO A LACK OF FUNDS, WE WILL HAVE TO CLOSE OUR DOORS TO RESCUES AND NEW PATIENTS COME THE 1ST SEPTEMBER 2026.

Physically, we have plenty of treatment and rehab spaces available for new patients in our wildlife unit and hedgehog hospital, however, without vital funding for vet visits, life-saving medication, medical supplies, and fuel, we simply cannot continue to rescue or take in any more animals.

We have now drained our own personal funds trying to keep the rescue wheels turning…

The reality we are facing is heartbreaking 🥺

📞 We receive over 50 calls for help every single day

🐾 We take in hundreds of wild and domestic animals every month—orphans, injured and sick wildlife, and unwanted pets needing a safe bridge to a new family

🌿 We do everything possible to heal and rehabilitate wildlife to return them to the wild where they belong.

🕊️ We proudly hold a zero-destruction policy unless injuries are so severe that recovery is impossible and unethical.

We are desperate not to have to turn people, other struggling rescues and animals away that need us!

We need our community now more than ever before! 🙏🥺

If you can spare even the price of a coffee, are able to set up a small monthly donation or if you can help us amplify this message by sharing, your support could keep our doors open for animals in need who have nowhere else to go and would otherwise be put down and not given a second chance.

🙏 Please help us 🙏
We have less than £100 remaining in the fund 💔

100% of every donation goes entirely on the rescued animals, we do not take a wage nor do we even buy a coffee with donation money!

💳 Please donate to our emergency fund:

The dangers of netting

This young hedgehog was found this morning caught in netting.

Thankfully her finders cut her free but knew not to continue cutting the rest off and called us for help.

Luckily little Maggie has not been cut by the garden netting but will still have to remain in care under close observation for the next 5 to 7 days due to the nature of the rescue.

Constriction injuries don't always show initially so it's really important that any animal that has been tangled up in any sort of netting is brought into rescue, even if they seem to be ok, so that any signs of swelling, bruising, tissue or nerve damage can be treated immediately if they show.

If you find an animal tangled up in anything, it's really useful to us if we have a photo of the entanglement before you cut them free.
This allows us to see where the animal was caught so we can monitor those body parts closely over the following days.

Always contain in a suitable high sided box, with an old but clean towel so they can hide to feel safe and keep away from any children, pets and loud noises until rescue arrives.

✋Please do not feed, if they are dehydrated, feeding can cause organ failure which will kill.

We administered fluids to Maggie as she was dehydrated from potentially being stuck all night.
Once she was stable a few hours later she enjoyed a drink of rehydration fluids and bite to eat.

Maggie isn't out of the woods yet but thanks to her finders quick actions and immediately calling in a rescue, she will have the best chance at making a full recovery 💖

Big thank yous to those who have donated wet and dry kitten and cat food... Maggie is benefiting from your kindness.

If you would like to help us with vital medical supplies we have a wishlist and the items get sent directly to us at the wildlife rehabilitation center 🙏💚

We are particularly low on medical gloves (both pink M and green L) and 10ml syringes please 🙏💖

Thank you to everyone who supports us!
We couldn't do this without you! 🫵🫶🙌💖

✋ STOP BEFORE YOU STRIM ✋

Before you or your gardener touch a bush, shrub, or patch of long grass this season, please check thoroughly.

We are currently overwhelmed with devastating strimmer and mower injuries to hedgehogs and other small animals. Every single one this year has been fatal. The injuries just too horrific to heal, and the suffering had to be ended.

The Reality of Strimmer Injuries

* Unimaginable Pain: Adult hogs and hoglets are being found with catastrophic wounds, often compounded by severe flystrike as they drag themselves helplessly around in agony.
It doesn't always kill straight away 🥺🙏

* Zero Survivors: Due to the severity of the trauma, none of the hedgehogs brought in with strimmer injuries so far could be saved 💔😭

* They Are Closer Than You Think: Even if you have never spotted a hedgehog in your garden, they are often quietly nesting where you least expect them, you never even knew they were there.

🫵 HOW YOU CAN HELP 🫵

* 👀 Check First: It takes just a few seconds to gently look through undergrowth before starting any garden work. Those few seconds can save a precious life.

* 🗣️ Spread the Word: Share this post so more people know to check before they strike to protect hedgehogs and other vulnerable wildlife in our communities from having the same fate.

We apologise for the graphic nature of the photos, but the reality must be seen so we can prevent these completely avoidable tragedies. 🙏🦔

This beautiful adult female was actually screaming out in pain while we rushed her to our vets... She had both back legs smashed to pieces and hanging off, massive injuries to her abdomen, hips and spine and maggots were eating her alive... It was incredibly distressing and it will haunt me to my last days...

This youngster had her front foot lopped off and was only attached by skin, gangrene and sepsis had already taken hold of the exposed bone... She had been hobbling around for some days, confused as to what has happened and again, it was just horrific so to see...

More and more patients come through our doors with similar injuries and the suffering is immense and it is totally avoidable... 😭💔😭

Every morning I weight all the hedgehogs and hoglets we currently have in care with us as part of the morning cleaning routine for our records and to make sure that all the hoglets are gaining weight as they should.

Because they are wild, talking and any noise is kept to an absolute minimum and handling must be kept less than 60 seconds.

When they are this flipping cute it takes all I have in me to not react and make cutesy noises!

It's a real challenge that I face every day!! 😅

Who else would have this problem....?
Or is it just silly me....?! 🫣🤣🥹🙏💕🫣
