Crazy Tuesday with my favourite trio, Teddy, Bertie and Lottie.

Morning fun at the park, chasing the ball and hunting in the bushes.

Beach walk this afternoon once the tide goes back out again, and of course plenty of cuddles on the sofa 🥰

Lovely cool wander through the woods today with Minnie and her sidekick Gypsy.

We walked at a steady pace today and had water stops along the way.

Lots of other walkers had the same idea too, so we met a lot more dogs than normal today.

Minnie was so good when asked to stand aside while a border collie passed us and a few other dogs along the way too. No reactions from her even though the other dogs were off leash near her.

We bumped into Paddy & Murphy as we were walking back to the car. Two handsome spaniels who belong to a friend of Minnie’s owner.

They’ve not seen Minnie for quite a while so it was really nice for them to meet again.

Minnie enjoyed a little playful jump around and was giving lots of kisses too.

It was little too warm for Luna to chase her toys today, so we settled for some toy chomping on the sofa 🤣

She enjoyed a yummy treat and then plonked herself on the chair in the window to watch the world go by.

Not long after the snoring started 🤣

Garden fun for Minnie today.

She had a blast with her paddling pool, her toys, and trying to take my fingers off every time she tried to grab the hose gun 🤣🤣

She has regular breaks, much to her disgust, but soon learnt to stand in the pool when I sat down.
That’s the signal to stop play.

I was soaked and Minnie was soaked too, but we soon dried off in the sun.

Just before I left her eyes were closing and it was time for a snooze.

☀️ HEATSTROKE ☀️

The do’s and don’ts’ of treating and preventing heatstroke.
(Some information copied from an official veterinary page)

Please avoid exercise during the hottest times of the day, or miss a walk altogether. A dog may die from heatstroke but won’t die simply from missing a walk.

Use games or treat hunting to keep them occupied.

NEVER leave your dog in a car in hot weather. Not even for 1 minute! It’s not safe!
The temperature inside a car, even with windows open can rise to 50% higher than the temperature outside, even higher if left long enough.

Use cooling collars, cooling mats and offer frozen treats, such as frozen raw carrots or frozen bone broth for them to gnaw on.

Fans are a great to keep rooms cooler. Keep blinds and curtains closed too.

Opening windows can actually allow the heat in. Assess each room individually before deciding weather or not to open windows.

If your pet is exposed to the heat, cool them down as soon as possible using the following techniques:

💧 Use cold water
💧 Give them a cold shower
💧 Focus cooling their sweat gland areas: ears & paws
💧 Plenty of water to drink

DO NOT

❌ Wrap towels over your pet, this traps in the heat and will exacerbate the symptoms
❌ Use lukewarm water at first, just use cold water
❌ Do not think a paddling pool alone is enough to keep them cool. Paddling pools help during playtime, but drinking water must be available at all times and playtime halted at the first sign of your dog being hot. Go go back indoors where it’s cooler.

If you think your pet is suffering from heatstroke you must get them to a vet immediately, do not wait!!!

🥵 IMPORTANT 🥵

Due to the forecast hot weather over the next few days, walks may be cancelled and changed to pop in visits instead.

Pop in visits will consist of gentle playtime indoors and/or outdoor play in paddling pools (outdoor play will be carefully monitored), cuddle time and feeding/water bowl top ups if needed.

The safety of your dogs is our priority at all times, especially in extreme weather.

If you have cooling mats, collars etc that you’d like us to use, please them out ready.

Thank you for your cooperation 🐾

Loony was full of beans today!

We played fetch with her toys, and she even managed a few little runs across the room 🤣, neighbourhood watch duties and of course, lots and lots of snuggle time.

She’s such a babe 😍

Lovely wander through the woods with Minnie. It was so quiet today.

Minnie’s nose was never off the ground with so many interesting smells.

We found a new path too, and she was super excited to investigate.

She was absolutely perfect today, and gave the best sloppy ear kisses in the car too 🥰🐾🤣

It was a little breezy on our walk today but Minnie and Gypsy thoroughly enjoyed it.

We bumped into Gypsy’s friend, Ben the Border Collie. He’s a lovely boy and Minnie has seen him a couple of times in the past. She’s calm around him but hasn’t been close enough to touch him.

Well, today she sniffed his face!! Yep that’s right, she was close enough, and still calm enough, to give him a sneaky kiss!

Gypsy became a little over excited, as she always does when she sees Ben, and Minnie reacted to this by jumping around too.
So, Minnie stayed back a little, next to me, because I want any interaction with Border Collies to be calm and positive.

She instantly settled, and turned to sit facing me and focused on a treat. Ben walked past her literally just inches away and she was fabulous.
She was given her treat as a reward.

I’m so so proud of her!

We also met a few other dogs, who were enjoying a run off leash, and again Minnie stayed calm. Even politely saying hello to Reg the spaniel.

Both girls have been angels today 🐾🥰
