Final session of my 6 weekly puppy group at The Old House Farm. So thrilled to see all the gorgeous puppies progress and come away with a rosette for focus, settling, sit/stay for up to 20 seconds, recall, hunting, find it, play retrieve, hand touch, leave it and so much more. Looking forward to seeing them back again for more workshops. Huge thanks to for treats and food samples and oil, excellent supplement that supports joints, coat condition and overall wellbeing

So very sad to hear of the passing of our beloved friend and training buddy, Nicky Cambrook.
This year brought a very special memory that I will always treasure. Thanks to a lovely invitation from Mary Hogg, six of us ventured up to HectorKirk for three days of training together. Wow, what a fabulous time we had.
We shared so many fond memories: fabulous training all day with Vanessa King, chats at lunch with nibbles shared by all, and beautiful walks across the moors and in the fields just over the road from the pub. We enjoyed drinks before supper, yummy pub grub, and huge cooked breakfasts filled with the fun and laughter that prepared us for the days ahead.
Nicky, you will be missed by so many. You leave behind a lasting legacy through your immense passion and love for the sport. So many of us will deeply miss your very special friendship and the genuine care you gave to everyone around you—it was a truly special gift.
RIP, Nicky. Sending so much love to your family and friends during this heartbreaking time.

🍂 AUTUMN TRAINING AT JT DOG TRAINING 🍂

My autumn diary is now full of training opportunities for puppies, pet dogs and gundogs, with workshops and training days at both West Wycombe Estate and The Old House Farm, Saunderton.
Whether you’re starting out with a new puppy, working on recall and focus, or looking to take your gundog training to the next level, there’s something for you.

🐾 Experienced Gundog Training Days
For dogs already working in the field, competing or ready to step up, with retrieving work across some fantastic parkland, woodland and water.

🐾 Novice & Beginner Gundog Workshops
For young or inexperienced dogs learning the basics and building confidence, with an emphasis on early retrieving skills.

🐾 Spaniel Gundog Workshops
Working on hunting, steadiness, recall and handling, with the opportunity for water work when conditions allow.

🐾 New Puppy Workshops – 6 weeks
A lovely foundation for your new puppy, covering focus, recall, loose-lead walking and confidence-building retrieves.

🐾 Heel, Recall & Focus – 6 weeks
For dogs of all breeds who need stronger recall, calmer lead walking and better focus around distractions.

🐾 Gundog Foundation – 6 weeks
For young dogs and pet gundogs beginning their hunting and retrieving journey. Suitable from around six months.
Spaces are limited to keep the groups small and personal, so each handler gets plenty of support and practical training time.

This is a video of Freddie, now 18 months performing a long memory mark onto the water at the other side of Sawmill Pond at West Wycombe. The pond is very large, and round!! My goal is to build his confidence to swim over the pond, pick a blind dummy off the far side, then get back into the water and swim all the way back to me and deliver to hand. I’m breaking down the retrieve, first I throw it just into the pond, then throw into the middle of the pond, each a very nice confident retrieve. In this video, I say him up, walked round the pond and let him see me throw a white water dummy into the edge of the water, I told him to wait there, and slowly walked back around the pond to my original position. I blew my stop whistle and then hunted him forward onto the white dummy in the water. He picked as you see in the video and swam back for a hand delivery. We still need more work on this, but my hand is a target and he’s coming to that. Always tricky when you train your dogs on your own, but good to break these exercises down 👌if you’d like your dogs to come and do some water training at West Wycombe, get in touch and book up: www.jtdogtraining.com
