🕷️ Tick season usually lasts from February until late October or the first frosts.
Some UK ticks, particularly sheep / deer ticks carry blood borne diseases such as Lyme's disease, Babesiosis and Louping Ill.
To reduce the risk of transmission from tick to host, we don't want to stress the tick on removal.
Ticks are arachnids, similar to spiders and have 4 pairs of legs.
A nymph, or immature tick can be the size of a poppy seed. A tick that has fed, or is engorged looks like a broad bean.
The safest, and most efficient way to remove a tick is using a tick remover tool.

HOW TO USE A TICK TWISTER ✅
Do NOT DELAY removing the tick. Prompt removal reduces the risk of contracting Lyme Disease and other tick borne diseases.
Remember to disinfect, the bite area with something like Leucillin and wash your hands thoroughly after removal.
❗️ BEWARE OF MISINFORMATION ONLINE ❗️
DO NOT do any of the following:
• burn the tick
• smother the tick in Vaseline
• rub around it with a cotton bud
• squeeze the tick
• stick tape over it
• try to pull it out with ordinary eyebrow tweezers
If you do anything to it while it is attached and feeding other than removing it as described above you will be distressing the feeding tick which will make it more likely to regurgitate it’s blood meal back into the dog and therefore spread tick born diseases such as Lyme Disease and bacteria into the dogs body.
I little tip is to have a piece of cellotape ready to put the tick in.
That way to can check you have removed all of the mouth parts and dispose of the tick safely.

🌿Grass seeds might look small and harmless, but in the wrong place, they can cause a great deal of trouble.
If your dog has been running in long grass, always check them for grass seeds afterwards, and remove any that you find, especially in between the toes, round their armpits and near their eyes.
If you find one stuck, or a wound/swelling that looks like it could contain one, book an appointment with your vet.
It’s important to remove grass seeds quickly, because their pointy shape enables them to pierce through skin, enter the body and travel around causing problems such as infections and abscesses.
🔶SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR 🔶
Grass seeds often cause problems in the ears, between toes, behind eyelids, up their nose and sometimes, under the skin and around the body.
👂EARS: If your dog has a grass seed in their ear, you may notice them excessively scratching it, or shaking their head.
👁️EYES: If your dog has a grass seed stuck behind their eyelid, they are likely to develop a painful, weepy or sore eye.
🐾PAWS: If your dog has a grass seed between their toes, they might excessively lick or nibble their paw, and overtime you might notice saliva staining and a swelling.
👃NOSE: If a grass seed has gone up your dog’s nose, you might notice sudden or violent sneezing as well as gagging or coughing.
🐕‍🦺ELSEWHERE: A grass seed travelling around the body is likely to cause vague symptoms such as a non-healing wound, low energy and an intermittent high temperature.
