Nicht jeder Mensch verdient einen Hund.
Aber jeder Hund verdient einen Menschen.
Einen Menschen, der Verantwortung versteht.
Denn ein Hund ist kein Accessoire.
Kein Statussymbol.
Kein spontanes Projekt.
Kein Lückenfüller, weil das Leben sich mit Hund irgendwie schöner anfühlt.
Ein Hund ist ein Lebewesen, das auf seinen Menschen angewiesen ist.
Und genau daran scheitert es leider oft.
Nicht immer in den ganz großen Dramen.
Sondern in den alltäglichen, fahrlässigen Entscheidungen:
* Hund bei Sommerhitze im Auto lassen
* ableinen, obwohl der Rückruf nicht zuverlässig sitzt
* fremde Hunde ungefragt in andere Hunde reinlaufen lassen
* Kontakt erzwingen, obwohl ein Hund längst zeigt, dass er keinen will
* Warnzeichen ignorieren, bis der Hund selbst regeln muss
* Grenzen, Management und Rücksicht als “übertrieben” abtun
Verantwortung zeigt sich nicht nur darin, einen Hund haben zu wollen.
Verantwortung zeigt sich darin, ihn ernst zu nehmen.
Ihn zu lesen.
Ihn zu schützen.
Für ihn einzustehen.
Vorausschauend zu handeln.
Und Rücksicht nicht erst dann zu zeigen, wenn schon etwas schiefgelaufen ist.
Nicht jeder Mensch ist bereit für einen Hund.
Aber jeder Hund verdient jemanden, der es wirklich ist.

Mellow turned 13 recently.
13 years with this old stubborn soul. My first Rottweiler, my character dog, my best boy.
He has been with me through so many different stages of life, through several moves, through changing countries, helping me raise young dogs, and over all these years he has simply always been a solid part of my life.
And because at 13 you can feel that time does not stand still, I wanted to use this occasion to get some beautiful photos of him — and a few of us together as well. Not overly staged, polished pictures, but memories of this exact dog, just the way he is.
A huge thank you goes to Zita , who took the time to capture these photos.
What stood out to me in the best possible way was that there was no pressure, no rush, and she was incredibly patient. She made sure the entire time that Mellow was comfortable and doing okay. Especially with an older dog, that means a lot to me. You can immediately tell that she does not just photograph dogs — she truly has a feeling for them.
She was open to wishes, open to feedback, very gentle and understanding, while also having a really good eye for moments.
So if you are in Vienna or the surrounding area and want beautiful photos of your dog, I can honestly recommend Zita.
These are only a few of the photos, by the way — there are many more, and I will definitely be posting some more over the next few days.

In Part 2 of the obstacle course, we keep building confidence, coordination and the ability to stay focused from one station to the next.
For a young dog, this kind of work shows a lot more than just athletic ability — it shows character.

13 years old today.
My first dog. My soul dog.

Ever since I was a kid, I wanted a Rottweiler. In my early twenties, that dream became reality and somehow, this dog ended up becoming a part of every chapter of my adult life.

Mellow has been through more with me than most people ever will.
Multiple moves, two countries, countless life changes. From Germany to England, from England to Austria, he was always there.

He helped me raise so many young dogs over the years. Calm, fair, stable, confident. A true character dog in every sense of the word. The kind of dog that leaves a mark on every dog and every person around him.

Some of the dogs that were once part of our pack sadly didn’t get the chance to grow old with us. That makes moments like this mean even more to me.

You can slowly see time catching up to him now. The grey hairs, the slower movements, the quieter days. But I’m incredibly grateful that he’s still here, still enjoying life, still being himself.

I genuinely love this dog with all my heart.
