What a morning for a rescue already!!😂 when you first go in to the rescue and you noticed that your 11ft boa with the thickness of an anaconda decides to escape from her enclosure and go on a little walk and rearrange’s the entire rescue through the night!!! Gotta love the big Snake!!🤣😂🐍

This is floki, he come to us yesterday from a very much loved family and very well looked after, his first night here at the rescue he has settled in quite nicely. All he wanted to do was come out and have a wander around 😂 he was a little nervous last night when I went into give him some food but that is understandable being a new place and new smells. So if he wants to come out for a little bit of garden time today, then he is more than welcome. And there is already talks from the family about him staying with us as an ambassador for the rescue. 😂❤️🦎

So our daughter Ashley’s school has reached out to us and asked if we could help out with doing work experience for students! 😃 with a lot of back-and-forth from the school and ourselves and getting all the correct insurances for them to come over to the rescue and do their work experience, we get our first two students next week so really looking forward to that !!😃

🥵⚠️ HEATWAVE WARNING ⚠️🥵

Just a reminder to all reptile keepers...

With temperatures rising across the UK, it’s really important to keep a close eye on your reptile enclosures. Even if your setup normally runs perfectly, a sudden spike in ambient room temperature can quickly push enclosure temperatures into the danger zone. 🤒🦎🐍

Unlike us, reptiles can’t simply move somewhere cooler or tell us when they’re struggling. Overheating can lead to dehydration, stress, respiratory problems and in severe cases, can even be life threatening ☠️❗

Please don’t assume your thermostat alone will fully protect against extreme weather conditions...monitor your temperatures carefully throughout the day, especially during the peak afternoon heat 🌡️

⭐ Tips to help reduce enclosure temperatures during heatwaves:

• Regularly check temperatures with reliable digital thermometers and temp guns

• Reduce or shorten heating periods if ambient temperatures are already high

• Move enclosures away from direct sunlight and hot windows

• Keep curtains/blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day

• Increase ventilation where safe to do so

• Use fans to circulate room air (be conscious not to aim directly onto the reptile)

• Offer larger or additional water bowls to help with hydration, and keep them topped up

• Provide humid hides for species that benefit from them

• Freeze ice packs and place them outside the enclosure to help cool surrounding air

⚠️ Avoid handling reptiles unnecessarily during extreme heat

⚠️ Monitor for signs of overheating such as gaping, lethargy, frantic movement or unusual behaviour

Please take a little extra time to check on your animals throughout the heatwave. A setup that is safe at 25°C room temperature can become dangerously hot at 35+°C very quickly.
