Pilling Gun Dogs are looking to recruit a permanent member of staff to join our team - a kennel assistant to help with their kennels in Pilling. The successful candidate will assist with the daily running of the kennels, caring for the dogs. Must be organised and will be required to do paperwork and ordering and social media. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with animals.
Work in accordance with Pilling Gun Dogs policies and procedures to support the owners to work in the best interest of the animals, our clients and the legal obligations of the business, as we are licensed breeders.
The role is within the hours of Monday to Friday 6.00pm - 8.00pm. Some of work will need to be flexible, We are looking for support for our alternate Saturdays 6.00pm to 8.00pm, times and days to suit both parties. There will be an opportunity to pick up extra hours to cover absence, holidays and pup duties. Can be discussed.
The role is varied and interesting if you have a passion for dogs. Your main duties include cleaning, feeding, giving medication, exercising the dogs, as well as transport runs to collect dogs and take to vets. Full training will be given during the trial period.
The role involves the need to work well as part of team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Exercising dogs individually and in groups throughout the day in one of our dog paddocks
* Pups - whelping, monitoring etc
* Preparing meals for dogs including any special diets.
* Observe, monitor and record health aspects of all animals in our care.
* Ability to communicate clearly when issues arise in a factual & practical way.
* Assist in stock control of equipment, feeding and cleaning supplies
* Care and upkeep of all work areas including gardens, field, car park etc.
* Administering medication if required.
* Keeping kennels clean and hygienic, sweeping out and removing waste, power washing
* Handling dogs individually, where necessary, to make sure they are obedient and well-behaved.
* Completing all necessary paperwork including checking up to date vaccinations etc
* Job is physically demanding and also includes outside work in all weathers.
* The successful applicant will be confident dealing with animals and must be able to use a computer
* Bathing dogs by bathing and trimming nails if required.
* Must have worked in the animal industry previously as previous experience is essential to the role.
* A successful candidate must be punctual and reliable.
* Able to be flexible with working hours.
* Have stamina and fitness for physical tasks.
* Be caring and patient, reliable and able to act on their own initiative.
* Be able to act fast under pressure in executing daily tasks.
* Be practical and prepared to deal with dirt and waste.
* Driving licence and transport is desired due to the location of the kennels being away from usual public transportation.
* There will be a 6 week trial period to allow you to fully understand the job role
* We are a small team, so everyone on the team is vital to the smooth running of the kennels
