I am entertained on a daily basis with the gorgeous dogs who come to stay with me and the many we appear to recruit to our pack on walks! So lucky to have this job it’s the best!

It’s not always easy to avoid the long grass especially if dogs like to venture and explore so be aware. I always check paws and coats and of course they love a brush!

🌱Grass seed season is here 🌱

These tiny, arrow-shaped seeds act like one-way needles, easily piercing your pet's skin, paws, eyes, and ears. Because they only move forward, they can burrow deep into tissue, causing painful abscesses, infections, and even migrate causing internal organ damage.

Common Warning Signs
🐾Paws: Sudden limping, excessive licking, or a painful swelling between the toes.
👂Ears: Intense head shaking, scratching at the ear, or holding the head to one side.
👀Eyes: Swollen, squinting, or watery eyes, often accompanied by rubbing with a paw.
👃Nose: Sudden, violent sneezing fits or a clear or bloody discharge.

How to Reduce the Risk ⚠️

🌱Avoid Long Grass: Keep dogs on paths and away from tall, drying meadows during peak summer months.
✂️Trim Feathered Fur: Keep the hair around your pet’s paws, toes, and ears trimmed short to prevent seeds from clinging.
🐕‍🦺Do Post-Walk Checks: Thoroughly check your pet's coat, underarms, groin, and between their toes after every single walk.
🪮Brush Regularly: Grooming your pet after outdoor time helps brush away loose seeds before they can burrow

Safe to say we have survived the heat wave! From Apple and carrot bobbing, to frozen licky mats! Not forgetting very early walks by the river, water play, cool mats, lots of snoozing in front of fans, paddling pool games, you name it we’ve done it. Such good dogs 🐾💦🍎🥕☀️

Fruit bobbing enrichment on a hot day for dogs!

This is how we are keeping cool 😎
• Early morning, shady shorter walks
• Swimming, paddling dips and water play
• Access to water in every room/ on walks
• Numerous fans in the house
• Cool mats to lay on if they choose
• Cucumber, frozen licky mats
• Snoozing indoors with the blinds down, windows shut.
My mantra is no dog ever died from not having a walk, you can enrich another way.

I'm pleased to say that I was Melissa’s Pawfect Retreat first kitty customer. I cannot thank you enough for looking after my fur baby.

Going away and leaving my Elsa has been tough in the past. But you made me feel instantly at ease. You're a true animal lover.

You arrived promptly, played with Elsa and gave her loads of love. As well as sending photos and videos, to put my mind at ease.

I think the thing I loved the most was you speaking to her in the same voice as me!

You made my trip more joyful. I would highly recommend you to anyone. I'll certainly be using you for all my fur baby-sitting 😻🐾
