A little Axl update! 🐾

Axl has been with me for quite a while now, originally joining me for training due to fear reactivity towards both dogs and people.

Since then, we’ve spent a lot of time working on building his confidence and changing how he feels about the things he once found worrying.

And now… he’s officially made the move to GROUP WALKS! 🎉

Axl is now comfortable around other dogs and people and has come such a long way from where he started. We’re still continuing to work on his confidence and progress, but he has reached a point where he’s ready to enjoy walks alongside some canine friends!

Moving a reactive or nervous dog into a group environment isn’t something I rush. It’s important that each dog is genuinely comfortable and ready for that next step.

Seeing Axl go from needing individual training walks to happily joining the group has been such a rewarding journey. His progress is a testament to what patience, consistency and giving a dog the time they need can achieve. 🐾

I’m incredibly proud of this little sausage and can’t wait to see how much more his confidence grows! 🌭❤️

Well done, Axl!

🐩✨ BEFORE ➡️ AFTER: The German Trim! Woofers Pet Grooming Salon ✨🐩

Just look at the difference a good groom can make! 😍

Artemas went from a fluffy little cloud ☁️ to a much neater, practical German trim. This style keeps the coat longer in some areas while giving a cleaner, more functional finish, making it a great option for active Poodles.

But grooming isn’t just about making your dog look pretty! 🛁✂️

Regular grooming is an important part of your dog’s overall care. It helps to:

🐾 Prevent painful matting and tangles
🐾 Keep the skin clean and allow you to spot changes early
🐾 Reduce the amount of dirt, grass seeds and debris caught in the coat
🐾 Keep sensitive areas clean and comfortable
🐾 Get your dog comfortable with being handled, brushed, clipped and examined
🐾 Keep the coat manageable between professional grooms

And with Poodles in particular, regular maintenance really matters. Their curly coats can hide mats close to the skin, meaning a dog can look perfectly fluffy on the outside while already becoming uncomfortable underneath.

The best groom is one that works for the individual dog and their lifestyle, not just one that looks good in a photo. ❤️

Artemas is an active boy, so having a practical trim that keeps him comfortable while still looking smart is exactly what we wanted!

What do you think of his German trim? 👀

Gus 🖤

I’ve had Gus as one of my work dogs since he was just 7 months old, and honestly, I couldn’t be more proud of how far this boy has come.

Gus is now around a year and a half, and over the last month especially, we’ve been putting a lot more focus into his training, particularly his recall and neutrality.

When we started, his recall was unreliable and he was easily distracted, and around dogs and people he could get very overexcited. Fast forward to now and he’s reliably recalling, able to remain neutral around dogs and people, and holding solid stays even in busy, distracting environments.

One of my favourite moments recently was asking Gussy for a down stay and having an off-lead dog walk straight past him, while he stayed exactly where I’d asked him to. 🥹

For a young Labrador with a brain that occasionally wants to go on its own little adventure, that’s a HUGE achievement 😂

He’s still got plenty to learn, but seeing the progress he’s made, especially in such a short space of time, has made me ridiculously proud of him.

Good boy, Gussy. 🖤🐾

🐩💙 Artie’s Muzzle Training Progress!

Muzzle training is something I started with Artie as soon as he came home. I wanted wearing a muzzle to be a completely normal and stress-free experience for him, rather than something that only gets introduced if he ever needs one.

We’ve taken it slowly, keeping everything positive and rewarding him throughout. We’re not rushing the duration, we’re just gradually building his confidence and comfort.

And now we’ve reached the point where Artie can happily wear his muzzle for around 30 seconds! 🥰🐾

It might not sound like a huge amount of time, but these little increments are exactly what we want. We’ll continue building the duration gradually while making sure he remains comfortable and relaxed.

I really recommend muzzle training as a life skill for every dog, even if you don’t currently expect them to need one. You never know when one might be needed for a vet visit, emergency, injury, grooming, travelling or another unexpected situation.

💙 Need help with muzzle training?

I’m more than happy to help and guide anyone who wants support with introducing a muzzle to their dog. It’s so important to go at the individual dog’s pace and build positive associations rather than simply putting one on and expecting them to tolerate it.

🐾 My muzzle recommendations

Baskerville
⭐ For muzzle training only. I like these for introducing a dog to the concept of wearing a muzzle, but I wouldn’t recommend them for long-term wear.

Big Snoof Dog Gear
⭐ One of my favourites! They offer custom sizing, which is fantastic for getting a much better individual fit. I absolutely love mine.

Mia's Muzzles
⭐ Another great option with custom sizing. Particularly worth looking at for scavengers, where having the right design and fit is especially important.

The Muzzle Movement
⭐ Another option I really like. These can be bulkier, so it depends on what you’re looking for and whether that’s something you’re happy with.

⚠️ Whatever muzzle you choose, fit is incredibly important. A muzzle should be appropriately sized for the individual dog and allow them to breathe, pant and drink comfortably.

If you’re unsure where to start with muzzle training or choosing a muzzle for your dog, feel free to message me! 💙🐾

🐾 Welcome back, Tom! 🐱💙

It’s always lovely when a previous customer comes back, and this time I got to spend some more time with the lovely Thomas, AKA Tom!

Tom is a rather distinguished elderly gentleman who knows exactly what he likes… his tuna and a good bum scratch! 😂

Just like his last booking, I’ve been popping in for his cat sitting drop-ins, making sure he’s happy, comfortable and getting plenty of attention while his humans are away.

And the best part? Tom definitely remembered me! 🥹🐾 It’s always such a lovely feeling when a returning customer recognises you and is happy to see you again.

I’ve just finished up Tom’s latest booking this morning, and he’s been an absolute pleasure to look after once again. ❤️

Thank you to Tom’s family for trusting Muddy Mayhem Pet Services with him again. Returning customers genuinely mean so much to a small business, and I’m always happy to welcome familiar faces (and whiskers!) back. 🐱

Until next time, Tom! 🐾💙

🐾 A warm welcome to Stella! 🐾

Everyone say hello to our gorgeous new girl, Stella! 💛

Stella is a 9 month old Pocket Bully who has joined the Muddy Mayhem family for regular walks, with some pet sitting adventures in the future too!

She’s an incredibly affectionate sweetheart who absolutely loves a fuss, but she’s also a little nervous and still finding her confidence. We’ll be taking everything at Stella’s pace, making sure every walk is a positive, enjoyable experience where she feels safe and secure. 🌿

We can’t wait to watch her confidence grow and be part of her journey. Welcome to the Muddy Mayhem family, Stella! We already adore you. 🐶💚

🐾 Back with one of my wonderful long-term pet sitting clients! ❤️

It’s always such a privilege to be welcomed back into a client’s home to care for their dog while they’re away. Building that level of trust means so much to me.

This gorgeous Welsh Springer Spaniel is an absolute pleasure to look after. He’s incredibly affectionate, beautifully trained, and has such a lovely nature. Being able to keep him in his own home, following his usual routine and surrounded by everything that’s familiar, helps make his owners’ time away as stress-free as possible for him.

Repeat bookings are something I’m incredibly grateful for, and I’m so thankful to all of my clients who continue to put their trust in Muddy Mayhem Pet Services. It really is the best feeling to watch these relationships grow over the years. 🩷

Looking forward to spending the next few days with this handsome boy!! 🐶✨

✂️ One of the most overlooked parts of dog care… nail maintenance.

A lot of people think, “They walk on concrete, so they’ll wear them down themselves.” Unfortunately, that isn’t always true.

I’ll be sharing photos of all three of my dogs’ nails to show the difference.

🐩 Artemas (my puppy) has short, rounded nails because I’ve prioritised nail handling and cooperative care from the very beginning. Puppies are like little sponges, so introducing nail care early makes life so much easier for them later on.

🐕 Jacob (my Pointer) has slightly longer nails than I’d ideally like. I’ve only had him for a year, and his nails were allowed to grow a little longer before he came to me. We’re slowly encouraging the quicks to recede, and they’re improving all the time.

❤️ Roxy’s story is the one that really made me passionate about nail care.

Roxy is now 10 years old and is grooming reactive, so nail trims have never been easy. For years we were told that walking on concrete would naturally keep them short. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.

By the time she was around 8 years old, her nails had become so long they were causing her discomfort. Some had begun curling, her front feet started to slant, she struggled for grip on smooth flooring, and she would often trip over her own nails. As a Basset Hound, her feet already carry a lot of weight, so those long nails also placed extra strain on her joints.

For the last two years, we’ve been working together through cooperative care. Every few days, we gently trim or grind a tiny amount, always at her pace. She tells me when she’s had enough, and I respect that.

They’re still longer than I’d like because her quicks were so overgrown, but we’ve managed to get those quicks to recede significantly. She’s much more comfortable than she was, and I’m incredibly proud of how far she’s come.

🐾 Why does nail length matter?
• Long nails force the toes into an unnatural position.
• They can change the way a dog stands and walks.
• They place extra stress on the joints, tendons and ligaments.
• Dogs can lose traction on smooth floors.
• They can snag, split or even curl into the paw pads.
• In long-bodied breeds like Basset Hounds and Dachshunds, good foot structure is especially important.

The best thing you can do is start young. Even if you don’t need to trim much, teach your puppy that having their paws handled is a positive experience. Your future self, and your dog, will thank you.

If your dog hates having their nails done, don’t panic. There are plenty of ways to build confidence without forcing them through it.

📩 If you’d like help introducing nail care, building cooperative care, or working through a dog that’s nervous about having their paws handled, send me a message or book a training session. I’d be more than happy to help.

Spending time with Chelsea this week has been such a pleasure. 🩷🐾

She’s the sweetest Staffy x Mastiff with such an affectionate nature, and it’s always lovely to see that happy face. Dogs like Chelsea are exactly why I love what I do. 💕

Thank you for trusting Muddy Mayhem to care for your gorgeous girl while you’re away. It’s always a privilege to look after such wonderful dogs in the comfort of their own homes. I can’t wait to see you again soon, Chelsea! 🐶✨

☀️ With the temperatures climbing, I’ve made the decision to cancel my walks for the time being. As disappointing as it is, the safety and wellbeing of the dogs in my care will always come first. 🐾❤️

That doesn’t mean they have to miss out on their fun though! 💦

Roly and Gus have been making the most of the doggy pool, burning off some energy, having a splash, and keeping cool at the same time. Safe, enriching, and judging by these faces… lots of fun too! 🥹🐶

I’d much rather adjust our routine for a few days than risk a dog overheating.

How are you keeping your dogs cool in this heat? ☀️👇 I’d love to hear your favourite ideas!
