Meet one of our fantastic volunteers! 💚

They first joined Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens just over a year ago to gain work experience as part of their college course. What began as a placement soon became something they genuinely enjoyed, and they've continued volunteering with us ever since.

Over the past year, they've developed a wide range of practical skills and gained hands-on experience that complements what they're learning at college. 🙌Volunteering at the farm has given them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting, helping to build their confidence, independence, and understanding 👩‍🌾

One of the things they value most is the support they receive from our team. By working closely with supervisors, they've been able to ask questions, learn new skills, and receive guidance that has helped them grow both personally and professionally. The strong relationships they've built have made a real difference to their learning journey.

When asked what Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens means to them, they said, "It means everything to me." They shared that they have learned so much during their time here, including things they never knew before and have found a place where they feel supported, valued, and connected.

We also asked what their favourite animals is:
"The silkie chickens, they're so fluffy and friendly...most of the time!" 🐓🐔

We will be opening up applications for working in the barn soon!

Slow Sundays are so much better when piglets are involved 🥹 Poppy & Petunia have grown so much in the 2 1/2 month since we’ve had them, but they’re still super cute 😍

You can see them everyday from 10am - 4:15pm, you can also buy animal feed for them, just remember to use the tubes provided!

💚Since day one of Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens we have relied on the generosity of volunteers and 2026 is no different. Today we welcome around 160 volunteers on site week.

This Volunteers' Week we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has given up their time to help the farm, past, present and future. We really wouldn't be where we are without you 🥰

Meet one of our incredible volunteers 🌱

When they joined Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens, they were looking for something many young people struggle to find: meaningful work experience. What they found was so much more 🥰

"The best part of volunteering here is the community and the people."

Volunteering gives young people the chance to build confidence, develop workplace skills, gain practical experience, and become part of a supportive community. These opportunities can be life-changing, especially at a time when many young people face barriers to employment.

In England, around 840,000 young people aged 16–24 were not in education, employment or training (NEET) in 2025 – that's more than 1 in 8 young people. Nationally, the figure is close to one million. Recent reports also show that many young people who are NEET have never had a job, highlighting just how important early opportunities and work experience can be.

Every volunteer at Stonebridge City Farm & Gardens gains valuable experience while helping to care for our green spaces, support local projects, and strengthen our community.

We're proud to provide a place where young people can learn, grow, and take their next steps towards employment. 💚
