As well as offering telephone advice to vets, Emily will travel to your veterinary practice to perform cardiac investigations or procedures. Emily has held a passion for cardiology since qualifying from the University of Edinburgh in 1999. After obtaining the certificate in veterinary cardiology in 2003 from general practice, Emily began working exclusively as a veterinary cardiologist in 2006. In

2014 she was awarded the RCVS diploma in veterinary cardiology. Emily enjoys all aspects of feline and canine cardiology, but is particularly interested in arrhythmias, collapse, biomarkers and echocardiography. Emily is currently a member of the heart testing panel.

Holter monitoring

A Holter monitor is a portable ECG machine that records a patient’s heart rate and rhythm for 24hrs, 48hrs or up to 7 day periods.

We fit these to patients with sticky pads (electrodes) and a vest that keeps the device tucked safely inside a pocket.

These are fitted to patients who may have arrythmias or episodes of collapse. The ECG is recorded and then analysed to help find the cause of these episodes.📉

Owners are given a diary sheet to record details and timings of activities or collapse episodes that occur whilst wearing the device. 📉🫀📈

These are well tolerated in dogs and most cats 🐈‍⬛🐕

Belle is a lovely patient and a pleasure to look after. She loves to cuddle up to everyone 🤗

Pip 🐶🐾

Little Pip has been through a lot due to the mitral valve disease! He had Atrial Fibrillation which converted back to sinus rhythm! 📉🫀

We closely monitor our patients and when Pip began collapsing he was back in for a heart scan and diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). The PH is being controlled with Vi**ra! 💊🫁

His kidneys are also closely monitored with regular blood testing, checking his urea, creatinine and also his electrolytes 💉. Pip doesn’t love being prodded and poked but we are very gentle; we offer lick-e-licks to try to distract him and butter him up. 🤗

He is such a sweet little old man and many of the nurses, vets and CC staff members are very fond of Pip ❤‍🩹🐶

🥼 We have been super busy this week with our Signature Study 🔍🔬🧪 📚

The Signature study is looking at a new cardiac drug (versus placebo) for dogs diagnosed with mitral valve disease, stage C and stabilised heart failure (CHF)🫀.

These patients receive either a trial drug or a placebo which will be administered alongside their current heart medications💊

We have almost finished recruiting! 🙏

This week we had the lovely pair, Bruce the dachshund and Bella the Cavalier in for scheduled visits as part of the study 🐶🐶

Both Bruce and Bella are a pleasure to look after 😊✨️👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️
