The last few days were spent refurbishing this stream and waterfall in Northamptonshire. It’s been a fair few years since it worked correctly and when run from the pond filter it had numerous leaks and issues resulting in a slightly neglected area of the garden.
After removing the stone to reuse, the cement shell underneath was removed to give a smoother stream base.
Turning this into a pondless waterfall and not connected to the pond gives this area of the garden a new lease of life and interest, the grandchildren can splash in it all they want now. All the ironstone rock and cobbles reused with some added crushed pebble gravel to infill.
A couple of tweaks to go still and cementing the slabs on next week to complete, the area will be replanted in the spring by the client when the ground is easier to work.

Stargrass, Dichromena colorata. A plant that’s generally overlooked.
This small grass is actually a sedge, it’s a graceful, grass-like marginal plant with slender, upright green foliage topped with delicate, white star-shaped floral bracts. These eye-catching bracts rise above the foliage from mid-summer into late autumn, creating long-lasting visual interest in pond margins.
I’ve planted it with shoreweed, Littorella Uniflora to eventually give a more grassy base and to look fuller all year around.
Whilst getting some pictures I knew I was being watched, the video shows a frog watching me whilst getting some needed shade.

A small pond clean with a lot of lily in a tiny basket!!

This small fish pond has not had much attention for the last few years, the lily had overtaken most of the pond and was bobbing in around a foot of sludge growing in every direction.
With the goldfish and frogs removed and kept safe, I started by saving the best lily rhizomes to repot and splitting the Pondetaria to create an extra marginal plant shelf. Oxygenating plant thinned out and installed an Oase Filtral 6000 for a fountain, uvc and filter pump.
Goldfish and frogs returned with 50% old water and an Oase duo boost to add some beneficial bacteria.
Happy fish, healthy pond, happy client!

From green to clean with the amazing Oase Filtoclear.
After a pond clean, Lily repotting and leak fixing, we installed this 31000 filtoclear and Aquamax eco premium 17,000 pump to keep this water crystal clear and healthy.
It’s super easy to clean and maintain making life a little easier for this client.

Last week was scorching with temperatures between 26 and 34degrees! ☀️🫠
But that didn’t stop us doing pond cleans, new Oase filtration, pump, lighting and fountain installations, pond maintenance, pond planting, blanketweed treatments and to top it off some lake and stream management!!

This is the best thing we’ve done in our garden! Bringing more birds to bathe and drink, damselflies and frogs too.
The relaxing babble of the water through the pebbles and boulders makes me sit and watch it for hours.
Woodland plants with fallen logs at the base of the laurel scattered into the stream giving frog hideouts and little bird baths.
A few more plants to fill out the feature and rear side of stream but starting to look lovely.

What a beautiful addition to this garden, bringing moving water and a sense of elegance to this small pond recently refurbished.
The client purchased a new pond shell for us to install with my introduction of a small spillway bowl on pedestal as the feature to be set into the rockery landscape. New and weathered Cotswold stone edging complemented by pebbles and cobbles to tie in with the surroundings.

New pond!! 🐸 We loved doing this one.
Using new products came with new challenges to create this lovely wildlife pond with loggery to the rear, planted up with ferns and shade tolerant plants surrounding the pond.

Looking forward to seeing this pond mature and bring even more wildlife to the garden.
