Another appeal for help with Peanut’s vet bills
Peanut arrived in rescue in early September, and it soon became apparent that he wasn’t as active as a guinea pig his age should be. He was also showing signs of struggling to eat properly.
His initial vet assessment didn’t identify anything obvious, but as he continued to lose weight without improvement, he underwent a full dental assessment. No significant or obvious dental problems were found, although some potential discomfort was addressed.
Unfortunately, despite this, Peanut still wasn’t eating enough on his own and has been relying on syringe feeding, alongside pain relief.
Yesterday, he went back to the vets for further investigation, including X-rays and another dental examination. The X-rays didn’t reveal anything to explain his difficulties, and his teeth were filed slightly. I am now monitoring him closely to see whether this helps him start eating enough to maintain his weight.
For now, Peanut still needs syringe feeding and pain relief, and I am hoping to see some improvement. It’s difficult when investigations don’t give clear answers, but I will try to work out what is going on and give him the best chance possible.
Yesterday’s X-rays and assessment cost £170.
As a small, self-funded rescue, these veterinary costs quickly add up. I am asking for donations towards Peanut’s bills to help to recover some of the funds spent on his care and keep them available for the next guinea pig who needs our help.
