🐠 REEF TIP #4: QUARANTINE NEW FISH 🐠

It can be tempting to add a new fish straight into your display tank, especially when it looks healthy at the shop. But a simple quarantine period can save you from major headaches down the line.

✅ Observe new fish for signs of illness
✅ Prevent parasites and diseases entering your display tank
✅ Give new arrivals time to settle and start feeding well
✅ Protect your existing fish, corals and invertebrates

A few weeks of patience can save months of treatment, stress, and expense.

It can be tempting to give your fish an extra pinch of food, but overfeeding is one of the most common causes of water quality issues in marine tanks.

✅ Feed only what can be eaten in a few minutes
✅ Remove uneaten food
✅ Keep an eye on nitrates and phosphates
✅ Remember: healthy fish don't need constant feeding

🐠🪸 REEF TIP #2: PATIENCE IS YOUR BEST PIECE OF EQUIPMENT! 🪸🐠

Let's be honest...

We've all looked at our tank and thought:
"I wonder what happens if I just change this one thing..." 👀

And that's usually when the trouble starts. 😂

A healthy reef isn't built overnight. Fish and corals would much rather have stable conditions than us constantly fiddling with everything trying to hit the "perfect" numbers.

So today's reminder is simple:

🧪 Let your tank cycle properly
🐠 Add livestock slowly
👀 Observe before you panic
🌡️ Keep things consistent
⏳ And most importantly... BE PATIENT!

Because in reef keeping, slow and steady really does win the race.
The frustrating part?
You can spend hundreds on equipment...
You can test your water 47 times...
You can stare at your tank for hours...
And sometimes the best thing you can do is absolutely nothing. 😂

Although apparently that's much harder than it sounds for us reef keepers! 🤣

🪨☀️ So... We're Thinking About Starting Again! ☀️🪨

You know that innocent little thought...

"Maybe I'll just rescape the tank..." 🤔

Yeah... about that. 😂

What started as a bit of thinking has turned into five days of sun-baking rock, cleaning it, scrubbing it, cleaning it again... and now I've got a Gorilla Tub full of rocks looking like they've been sent to reef rehab. 🤣

They're currently being seeded with:

🦠 Beneficial bacteria
⚙️ Bio balls from the display tank
💦 A pump keeping everything moving
🪨 And a whole load of patience

The idea is to get everything nicely seeded and ready before making any decisions about the tank.

Because apparently owning a reef tank means that eventually you look at something you've spent months building and think...

"I could make that better." 😂

We're not 100% committed to the rescape yet, but the wheels are definitely turning. 👀

If we do go ahead, I'll share the whole process—from the rock preparation and cycling right through to the final scape.

And knowing how reef keeping works...

It'll probably start as a simple rescape and somehow turn into a full-blown tank renovation. 🤦‍♂️🐠

🐠 Pretends nobody can see me

If I can't see Monday, Monday can't see me. 🤷‍♂️😂
