Autumn is here π Time for a pasture check-in! It's a good time to think about grazing management, especially if your horse or pony deals with metabolic issues, insulin resistance, laminitis, or is carrying extra weight.
Depending on where you are, Autumn can bring fresh growth after summer, greener pastures and cooler temps. Sounds nice, but it can also be risky for horses prone to laminitis, especially those with Cushing's disease.
Laminitis is one of the leading causes of death in horses, so it's worth taking seriously. The key is transitioning your horse's diet gradually as the season shifts.
That lush Autumn grass might look tempting, but its higher sugar and starch content can lead to laminitis or digestive upset if grazing isn't carefully managed π΄
