Something you probably didn’t know about me…

I was teased about my teeth at school and it really knocked my confidence. But it wasn’t only about how they looked. As I got older, I started getting clicking and pain in my jaw too.

In 2009, I went to an orthodontist thinking I might finally get braces. Turns out my teeth were in the right place, but my bottom jaw wasn’t. So I went on the waiting list for surgery and had braces for a few years beforehand.

In 2013, I had lower jaw surgery and a chin operation. My jaw was broken on both sides, moved forward and secured with metal plates. Then my chin was sliced and pushed back too. Oh, the glamour.

The operation didn’t go to plan and I had to be rushed back in because the bleeding wouldn’t stop. Recovery was scary, painful and took months. I lived on liquid food through a straw and my face was one massive bruise.

Then, because apparently that wasn’t enough excitement, I developed an infection and the bone on one side started to die. I had to have another procedure to remove the dead bone and one of the metal plates from my jaw.

So if you ever notice a dent in my jawline, now you know why.

Even now, I have no feeling in my bottom lip or lower jaw because of nerve damage. I could have food, toothpaste or a small creature sat on my lip and genuinely not know about it. I also have a slight tendency to drool, which feels quite fitting considering I spend my days surrounded by dogs.
So yes, if I ever look like I’ve got something on my face, please do me a favour and tell me!

We’re quite fussy about our groups!

For us, it’s all about getting the right dogs together and making sure they actually enjoy each other’s company.

Sometimes that means saying no, and that’s okay. We’d much rather be a bit fussy and get it right.

Five years this month, where did that go?

Looking back has made me realise just how much this little business has given me.

Thank you to everyone who’s trusted me with their dogs over the years. I don’t take it for granted. ā¤ļø
