# # # 🐾 5 Signs Your Pet May Be Unwell

Our pets can’t tell us when something isn’t right, so it’s important to notice changes in their usual behaviour. ❤️

Keep an eye out for:

1. **🐶 Changes in appetite or drinking** — eating or drinking noticeably more or less than usual.
2. **😴 Unusual tiredness** — being quieter, less active or reluctant to play.
3. **🤢 Vomiting or diarrhoea** — especially if it’s persistent, severe or accompanied by other symptoms.
4. **🩺 Changes in behaviour** — hiding, becoming unusually withdrawn, restless or irritable.
5. **🚽 Changes in toileting** — difficulty urinating, accidents in the house or changes in bowel movements.

Trust your instincts — you know your pet better than anyone. If you’re concerned about a change in your pet’s health, it’s always worth seeking veterinary advice.

❌ MYTH: "If my dog is on daily pain medication for osteoarthritis, it will mask their symptoms and cause them to overexert themselves, leading to more joint damage."

FACT:
Pain management is essential for breaking the cycle of chronic pain and inflammation. When a dog's pain is unmanaged, they tend to move less, leading to muscle wasting (atrophy) and stiffness. Unmanaged pain can also cause central sensitisation- where the nervous system becomes hypersensitive to pain signals over time.

Properly managed pain allows dogs to comfortably engage in controlled, low-impact exercise (like gentle walking or hydrotherapy), which builds supporting muscle tissue and preserves joint mobility. Rather than masking a problem, targeted pain relief helps maintain physical health and improves quality of life.

🐶☀️ Walking Your Dog in the Heat – Keep Them Safe This Summer! ☀️🐾

Hot weather can be dangerous for our four-legged friends, so a few simple precautions can make all the difference.

💧 Walk during cooler hours – Aim for before 8:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. when temperatures are lower and the sun is less intense.

🚰 Keep them hydrated – Always carry fresh water and a collapsible bowl, and offer your dog a drink every 15–20 minutes during your walk.

🌳 Choose shady routes – Walk where there are plenty of trees, buildings, or covered paths. Take regular breaks in the shade so your dog can rest and cool down.

🐾 Protect their paws – Before heading out, do the 5–7 second pavement test. Press the back of your hand on the pavement for five to seven seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

❤️ Watch for signs of overheating – Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, confusion, vomiting, or collapse are all warning signs. If you notice any of these, move your dog to a cool place, offer small amounts of water and seek veterinary advice immediately.

⚠️ Take extra care with flat-faced breeds, senior dogs, overweight dogs and thick-coated breeds as they are more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

A little planning goes a long way in keeping our furry companions happy, healthy, and safe all summer long. 🐕☀️ Stay cool and enjoy your walks responsibly!
