UPDATE - GREAT NEWS! HEIDE IS SAFE/WELL & BACK WITH HER OWNERS 💗

Newfoundland dog running from Court Farm Road by St Vincent's school, across Dunkery Road into Foxes Field at 8.40am today, Tuesday. Did pull over and try to get it on slip lead but no luck. It laid down to rest by car park, was going to drive into it to try again but sadly dog ran out of gate into main road. Please keep your eyes peeled, there is a female Newfoundland that uses Foxes Field often called Heidi....really hope this dog is ok?

My brothers beloved sweet dog Margo was attacked yesterday (Thursday) morning around 7.30am in Elmstead woods. There were (what we think to be) a female blonde dog walker, in her 30s & medium build with an Eastern European man, bigger built with approximately 5 dogs.

One being big white Shepherd type, a dapple Dachshund, lab type with one missing front leg and 2 others.

One of the dogs attacked Margo so viciously she had emergency surgery and has had to have an eye removed & has multiple puncture wounds to her neck.

My poor adult niece was walking her two small dogs along with Margo and they are all traumatised by what happened and life will never be the quite the same.

If anyone knows these people or recognises the descriptions or if you are the owner of any of the dogs, please come forward.

Whoever they were, did not take responsibility and left the scene without offering their details! Shocking behaviour and need to held to justice. Makes me also wonder if the actual dog owners are aware of incident if being walked by someone else....doubt it!

Little Margo will never be the same, our family is heartbroken.

Heatwave Safety for Dogs — What Owners Must Know

Dogs struggle far more than humans in hot weather because they can’t cool down efficiently. They rely on panting, which becomes less effective in heat or humidity. This makes heatwaves especially dangerous.

Dogs can develop heatstroke even at 17C according to UK data.

Early Signs Your Dog Is Overheating:

These are the first clues your dog is struggling:
Excessive panting or fast breathing,
Bright red or pale gums,
Drooling or sticky saliva,
Slowing down/wobbling, or confusion,
Seeking shade or lying down suddenly (inference based on heat‑stress behaviour).

Severe Heatstroke Signs (Emergency)

If you see these, act immediately:

Vomiting or diarrhoea (sometimes with blood)
Collapse, disorientation, or inability to stand
Seizures or unresponsiveness.
Heatstroke can cause organ failure and can be fatal if untreated.

What To Do — COOL FIRST, TRANSPORT SECOND

This is the official RSPCA and PDSA guidance:
Move to shade or a cool indoor space
Pour cool (not icy) water over the body, avoiding the head
Focus on neck, stomach, thighs
Create airflow with a fan or open windows
Offer small amounts of cool water, don’t force drinking
Call your vet immediately and continue cooling while travelling
Do NOT:
Place wet towels over the dog, this traps heat
Use ice‑cold baths, risk of shock (RSPCA guidance)

Dogs Most at Risk in a Heatwave

Flat‑faced breeds (Pugs, Frenchies, Bulldogs), extremely high risk
Puppies and senior dogs
Overweight dogs
Long‑haired or double‑coated breeds (inference supported by RSPCA coat guidance)
Dogs with breathing or heart issues

Stay safe
