AND RELAX!

A relaxed, calm and confident groom is the aim. Both for the dog and groomer. But, it doesn't happen instantly. Through consistent exposure the dog begins to learn the process, they become familiar with the routine and this is when confidence grows.

Have I ever been bitten? Is a question I have been asked on many occasion.

No, not yet.

My dog grooming career happened because of a strong interest in canine behaviour. An understanding of behaviour, the ability to read body language together with calm and confident handling should always sit above or in line with a dog groomers sc******ng skills.

The dog is always the first consideration🐾

Did you know? The Poodle originated in Germany, developed as a water dog to retrieve game.

Current clients please be reminded to schedule your next appointment at pick up. I am running close to full capacity, I would like to ensure all current clientele is accommodated prior to onboarding new clients or making the decision to close my books to new dogs for the time being.

Just popping up to say hello!

Hope the first few days of August have been kind to you, we are certainly enjoying a true summer 😎

Gentle reminder that I am fully booked until September, should you require an appointment prior to the latter my advise is to make contact with an alternative Groomer.

Communication. Whilst I endeavour to reply to calls, v/m, text and new registrations as swiftly as possibly, please be reminded that I am a "One-Person Business" and the occasional contact will be missed unintentionally or delayed because I am taking time off with my family.

***IMPORTANT UPDATE***

Whilst the self registration link on my website is still live, I am unable to accommodate any new clients until mid to late September 2026.

For those clients requiring an appointment prior to the above, my advise would be to seek out an alternative groomer.

In the event your current groomer is closing, you are relocating to the area and wish to come on board with Waggy Tails Dog Grooming. Please liaise with myself and your current groomer in the hope we see a smooth transition with your last groom accommodated and a groom with myself scheduled for late Sep/early October where possible.

***IMPORTANT UPDATE***

During this period of hot weather, I am very much taking things on a day to day, individual dog basis.

Today's diary went ahead as scheduled, all dogs were comfortable and cool enough with the introduction on an air-con unit, cooler baths and all drier heat settings turned off.

As the weather heat's up further into this week there are a few more adaptions I am able to make to grooming sessions. However, these adaptions will not work for all dogs and all coat types. Each client will be contacted to discuss options suited to their dog.

If you have tried to make contact please be patient, I will have received your message but not yet had an opportunity to reply.

Rumour has it you are hypoallergenic!

Are Cockapoos really hypoallergenic?

No. But they are often marketed as hypoallergenic due to their lower shedding coats, but no dog breed is entirely free of allergens.

Tick season is in its prime, have you spotted any yet?

Spider like parasites with eight legs and an egg shape body, easily brushed off as skin tags. Ticks do not jump or fly. They most often attach by climbing and or dropping as the dog moves through long grass, explores the woodland.

Common attachment sites include the head, neck, ears, armpits and groin. I most often find and remove them from the eyebrow and close to the armpit.

TWIST AND PULL TWIST AND PULL is the technique you must use to ensure the tick is removed as a whole.

Caring for the older dog.

Dogs live for an average of twelve years, although many live for much longer and individually age at different rates.

Meet Paddy, 13 years young and an absolute beauty of a dog both in looks and temperament. Whilst Paddy is more than compliant, and willing to stand for his entire groom it is important as a groomer to consider ageing joints and take every opportunity to shorten groom times, move across to senior/comfort grooms when the need arise.

Post bath Paddy positioned himself (as picture), so we took the opportunity to dry and brush out his coat whilst he lay comfortably taking in the view cutting his table/standing time by half.

We adore you Paddy.
