into a business that not only supports my passion, but also meets the needs of the local community. Being a dog owner myself, I have experienced many different dog care facilities that weren't able to meet the needs of me or my dog, leaving me with no options to accommodate my dog. I am absolutely thrilled and humbled to announce that The Dog Den has been shortlisted for the Furry Friends category at the 11th Anniversary Deepings Business Awards! 🏆

Starting this dog grooming business has been a whirlwind. Ending my very first year with this kind of recognition means the absolute world to me. Every stubborn coat of fur, and every ounce of hard work feels completely worth it right now. ❤️

To win this award would be the ultimate joy, but I need my amazing pack to help me cross the finish line!

If you have brought your pups to me this year or supported my small business in any way, it would mean everything if you could take a quick moment to vote.🥹🐾

🌞 What a week! 🥵🐾

It’s certainly been a very hot one! A huge thank you to all of my lovely clients who were so understanding and kindly rescheduled their dogs’ appointments while the temperatures were so high. ❤️

Thankfully, looking ahead, things are finally cooling down, so normal business should resume next week! 🙌

Despite the heat, I’ve still had some absolute superstars in the salon this week. 🥰🐶 They all did so incredibly well, and I’m so proud of them!

In fact, for one little dog, I actually finished their groom in my utility room because it was cooler in there than in the salon! 😂 Sometimes you just have to think outside the box!

The welfare and safety of your dogs will ALWAYS come first at The Dog Den. ❤️

Thank you, as always, for your patience, understanding and trust. ☺️

📅 August is now FULLY BOOKED!

I’m currently taking bookings for September, so if your dog is due a groom, please get in touch to secure your appointment. 🐶✂️

Here’s to a much cooler week ahead! 🌤️🐾

🌿 Summer leaves its mark… and I can usually spot it!

A summer full of walks, gardens, beaches and adventures can mean sand, grass seeds, sticky plants, dry ends, shedding and sneaky little knots hiding away in the coat.

And honestly, I love that part of grooming... looking at the coat and figuring out what it’s telling me. 🐶

Because every dog comes through my door with a different coat, different lifestyle and different needs.

So before I pick up a clipper or brush, I take a proper look first. What does the coat need? What can I do to make it feel healthier, more comfortable and easier to manage?

Grooming isn’t just about making a dog look neat. It’s about listening to what their coat is telling you.✨

📅 And a little booking reminder…

August is now fully booked and September appointments are filling up fast! So if your dog is due a groom, don’t leave it too long. 🐾

You can simply send me a message to book, or, if you’re an existing client, you can access our live booking calendar.

Just text me your dog’s name and your surname and I’ll send you access. From there, you can see all the available appointments and book the one that suits you. 🤍

What a lovely first week back!🐾

After a week off, it’s been so nice to get back into the salon and see all of my gorgeous four-legged clients again! 🥰

It’s been a busy week filled with lots of cuddles, waggy tails, excited puppies, a couple of nervous faces and lots of beautiful transformations! ✂️🐶💕

And one of my lovely Cockapoos is soon celebrating her 1st birthday 🎂💕 She’s been coming to The Dog Den since she was just a little puppy, so it’s been so lovely watching her grow! Happy Birthday Belle xx

It really has been the best first week back, and I’m so grateful to all of my wonderful clients for keeping me so busy. ❤️

Here are some of the gorgeous faces I’ve had in this week… 🐾📸

With warmer weather here☀️, keeping coats free from tangles and matting is more important than ever.

If you're not sure which brush to use, pop me a message and I'll happily guide you 😀🐾

🐾 WELCOME TO WEEK! 🐾

Did you know that just 5 minutes of brushing each day can make a huge difference to your pet's comfort and wellbeing?

Regular brushing helps remove loose hair, prevent painful mats, improve airflow through the coat and gives you the opportunity to check for any lumps, bumps or skin concerns.

With warmer weather here, keeping coats free from tangles and matting is more important than ever.

This week, B**A is encouraging pet owners across the UK to pick up a brush and spend a few extra minutes caring for their pets.

The old teacher in me kicked in today and before I knew it, I was comparing dog coats to forests...😂🌲

Today I was grooming Hudson - a beautiful Golden Retriever and as I combed him, I watched handful after handful of loose undercoat come away. It made me smile and think of all the times I have been asked to shave a dog to keep them cool.
Because although they might seem like the same thing, they're actually very different...👇

🌲 Imagine a dense forest...

If you cut every tree down to half its height, you still have exactly the same number of trees packed into the same space.

But if you remove hundreds of trees altogether, suddenly air and light can move through the forest much more easily.

Your dog's coat works in a very similar way.

🪮 De-shedding removes loose, dead undercoat from the coat. That means there's genuinely less coat trapping heat and restricting airflow.

✂️ Shaving or clipping doesn't reduce the number of hairs growing from the skin, it simply makes those hairs shorter. On double-coated breeds, such as Golden Retrievers, those longer guard hairs also help shade the skin and protect the skin from the sun.

For these breeds, a thorough de-shed is often far more beneficial than shaving because it helps the coat work as nature intended.

🐶 What about other breeds?

Not every dog has the same type of coat.

Single-coated breeds, or breeds that are routinely clipped such as Cocker Spaniels, Springer Spaniels, Poodles, Cockapoos, Cavapoos, Shih Tzus and many other crossbreeds, often benefit from regular clipping as part of their coat maintenance.

But even for these dogs, clipping alone isn't the whole answer. Removing dead coat, tangles and compacted hair is just as important, as it allows better airflow, keeps the coat healthy and helps your dog stay comfortable.

💛 The takeaway?

Every breed has different grooming needs, but a healthy coat isn't about removing as much hair as possible, it's about removing the right hair.

Sometimes the best way to help your dog stay cool isn't taking all the hair off... it's removing the hair they don't need in the first place. 🐾
