🐾 The evenings are drawing in and those lovely long summer walks are starting to feel like a distant memory!

But there's something rather special about wrapping up warm, getting out into the fresh air and enjoying a walk with your best friend ❤️

For many of us, our dogs are the reason we get outside when we'd much rather stay in the warm! They keep us moving, give us a reason to explore and quite often make us smile when we need it most 🐶

Sometimes the best reason for packing something is the one you never expected.

If you've followed us for a while, you'll know Finn doesn't wear his Canny Collar on every walk.

He's got a good recall and, wherever it's safe and appropriate, we'd much rather see him off exploring and using that Springer nose of his.

But we always pack his Canny Collar when we go away.

And on our last holiday, I was VERY glad we did.

Our trip took a rather disastrous turn when I ended up in hospital. Suddenly my 72-year-old mum was helping to look after Finn — an excitable Springer she doesn't normally walk. 😬

Finn hadn't forgotten his training. Mum hadn't suddenly become a dog trainer. We just had two individuals who weren't used to walking together.

His Canny Collar gave Mum a little extra help managing him while everything else was rather chaotic.

And it made me think about something I'd never really considered before.

We often talk about training aids in terms of *our* dogs and *our* walks.

But circumstances change.

You get injured. You become ill. Someone else has to take the dog. Or you simply have a day when your normally sensible dog has completely misplaced his brain. 😂

You might not need that extra help every day.

But sometimes you're very glad it's in the bag. 🧡

Happy International Dog Day 🐾

Here’s to the pullers, the sniffers, the mud magnets, the selective listeners and the dogs who somehow manage to take up 90% of the sofa.

The easy dogs. The complicated dogs. The ones who test everything we thought we knew and the ones who simply seem to know us.

Life would certainly be tidier without them.

But we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🧡
