Sunburn
Our pets can get Sunburn just like we can.
Most at risk are those that have white ears or nose areas but any pale exposed skin can be affected, or those with very fine short fur.
We recommend using a pet friendly sun cream, specifically pet one’s are best but if you do use human ones make sure they don’t have zinc oxide or para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in them as these are toxic to our pets. At least factor 30 is best.
Getting burns can lead to serious skin issues like cancers so be aware if you go out in bright sun or if your pet is a sun addict (like cat’s laying in sunbeams inside a window).
Of course the best way to prevent this is to avoid going out in the hot sun for any length of time, or sticking to shaded areas, but since we can’t explain this to our pets then be sure to protect them.
