Unfortunately we have had to cancel all visits and walks for the time being whilst we get over our loss and make sure that the rest of the donkeys are back to a form of normal.
We are completely heartbroken to have to let you know that Holly was put to sleep last Thursday. I found her with colic first thing in the morning and hoped the emergency vet would be able to sort it but unfortunately it was too late. It’s a year to the day since she lost her partner Cookie, we just cannot believe it.
Her son Charlie is very sad and stands by her grave at various times of the day, we are spending a lot of time just being with him.
Holly was our first donkey and just the kindest soul. She was featured in many newspapers, was the funny story at the end of the news with Trevor McDonald and we were invited to be on the Jay Leno show with her - they wanted to pay for us all to fly out to America! Obviously we said no. Holly was a much loved and very treasured member of our family, but she did love the cameras pointing at her. We could never leave the back door open and her unattended as she loved going indoors and finding the fruit bowl. She loved going to care homes as she was always thoroughly spoilt and she touched hearts wherever she went.
Although she has left us heartbroken and feeling incredibly sad, she has also left us with wonderful memories. Run free sweet girl, you will never be forgotten and will be forever missed.
