Maya ❤️
Maya is a beautiful 10-month-old Husky puppy who has been enjoying her busy few weeks - and what a transformation she is making!
Maya is a typical Husky puppy: full of energy, incredibly playful, curious and constantly testing boundaries as she learns about the world around her. She absolutely loves playing with other dogs and is happiest when she has plenty to do 🐾
Sadly, Maya has had a very unsettled start to life. She was passed around as a young puppy and, her recent owners gave up on her. Instead of receiving the care and attention she needed, she was left chained to a radiator. She was poorly fed and her coat was in terrible condition. She was often found soiled, a kind neighbours sought Maya some help.
Thankfully, Maya is now learning what life should be like - and she is loving it.
She thrives in an active environment and would love a home where she can spend lots of time outdoors. One of her favourite things is rough-and-tumble play with her GSD foster friend, followed by exploring and sniffing around outside
Maya will need owners who understand high-energy, vocal breeds and who are prepared to dedicate time, patience and consistency to her ongoing training. She is still only a puppy and, because of her difficult start, she is behind where we would expect a 10-month-old to be with some of her milestones
However, she is already making fantastic progress. With consistent exercise, routine and training, Maya is now toilet trained, crate trained and walking better. She generally greets new dogs nicely, although she can still pull, jump and whine when she is excited to meet them. She is learning to disengage from other dogs well 🐾
Maya is very food motivated, which makes her eager to learn, and she is picking up new boundaries quickly. She will need this work to continue in her forever home so that she can grow into the wonderful adult dog we know she can be
A home with another confident, high-energy dog could be particularly beneficial for Maya. Having a suitable canine role model could help her continue learning appropriate behaviours and give her a companion who can keep up with her love of play 🐶
Maya may be suitable for a home with older, sensible children, but adopters must understand that she is very much still a puppy. She can nip, mouth and jump up when excited, so she needs children who understand boundaries and adults who can supervise and continue her training.
Maya's difficult past has also affected her confidence. She can find men a little scary initially and is still hand-shy. She needs people who will allow her to build trust at her own pace. Once she decides she trusts you, however, she becomes incredibly affectionate and will act as though she has known you forever ❤️
After a busy day of walks, training, meeting new dogs and discovering new experiences, Maya is more than happy to curl up and sleep soundly in her blanket filled crate. She enjoys hiding her bones in the blankets 🦴
Maya is absolutely stunning, inside and out. She has already come such a long way, and with the right home, continued training and someone willing to invest the time she needs, we believe she has the potential to become an amazing companion 🐾
Maya is searching for her forever home - one that understands her breed or the likes of high energy dogs, respects her past, embraces her puppy energy and is committed to helping her learn everything she should have had the opportunity to learn from the beginning 🐾❤️
