Meow! It’s Fluffy here, and on behalf of the Working Cat Society, I wanted to tell you a little bit about us working cats.

Now, contrary to popular belief, this doesn’t mean we work a 9–5. Although, if you ask me, napping is a full-time profession that requires a great deal of expertise. Can I get a meow? 🐾

You see, a working cat is simply a cat with a more independent nature who’s looking for a non-traditional home. But although we enjoy our independence, we still need love. Don’t we all?

To make things easier for you humans, we’ve created CVs - or curriculum vitae, if you’re feeling fancy (which we are).

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and our TheraPaws programme is a wonderful example of the positive impact dogs and cats can have on our wellbeing.

Recently, TheraPaws dog Zena and her owner, Shirley, visited a patient at St John’s Hospice.

As an animal lover, the patient was overjoyed to spend some time with Zena, even sharing a cuddle with her on the hospital bed. 🥰 Her son later told us the visit had put a huge smile on her face.

We're so proud of our TheraPaws dogs and volunteers who bring these moments of joy into people's lives. 💜

In just two days, our Chief Executive Elvira Meucci and Chair of Trustees Julianne Hicks will be spending the night in Mayhew’s kennels and cattery as part of a special fundraising Sleep In for . 💜

This special Sleep In is a way of standing alongside the dogs and cats currently in Mayhew’s care, while raising vital funds to help give them the love, support and second chances they deserve.

By taking on this challenge, Elvira and Julianne are helping raise awareness of the journeys many dogs and cats go through before finding the loving forever homes they deserve.

Hello, my name is Roo. After 90 days of waiting, I’ve decided it’s officially time to launch an appeal to help me find my forever sofa. 🛋️🐾

We love hearing from our adopters. 🥰

Guinness's family recently got in touch to share: "She has become a major part in our life and we would be lost with out her. Our neighbours probably think we are crazy as we often meow back to her or have fully blown conversations with her.

She learned how to play fetch and has grown up so quickly already. She is still as obsessed with the couch as she was the day she arrived and has claimed it as her own. Overall she is a much loved bonkers baby." 💜

Did someone say kitten season? 🙀 That's right, kitten season is well and truly upon us and we have lots of little ones in our care.

And what do kittens love? Playing! 🧶 But the best play involves teamwork and we need you help purr-lease.

Would you like to meet a few of the animals behind Elvira and Julianne's Sleep In? 🐶 🐱

Arriving in our care in April last year, Wallace is our longest stayer. 💔 While in the care of Mayhew, he's always had a kennel of his own, veterinary care, nutritious food and support from our Canine Behaviour team. As well as lots of love from us all at Mayhew.

His presence alone is enough to put a smile on our face, but the truth is - we'd love nothing more than for him to be adopted. After all, a kennel is not a home.

Would you like to meet a few of the animals behind Elvira and Julianne's Sleep In part two? 🐶 🐱

Katya arrived at Mayhew in early February alongside two of her kittens who have now been rehomed.

While we are thrilled for Katya's kittens, we can't but help wonder when it will be her turn to find a family of her own.

Being a gentle soul, Katya doesn't always stand out in our cattery and she's seen countless friends come and go while she continues to wait.

She's a sweet girl with a loving heart in a sometimes shy shell. For as long as Katya needs, she'll continue to receive all the loving care she needs from us. We just hope she won't be waiting too long. After all, a cattery is not a home.

Wallace recently spent some time painting with one of our Canine Behaviourists as part of his enrichment. Being such a clever boy, Wallace loves to learn.

There are so many reasons why people should consider giving Wallace a chance, and this is just one of them. 💜

Meet one of our new arrivals... he's an ace at stealing hearts. But there’s no need to report this little pup-etrator. They promise to take very good care of your heart, as long as you'll take good care of theirs. 💜

At three years old, Ace has been through a bit of a tough patch in the past. Due to a previous injury in his left hip when he was a puppy, his hip joint no longer sits in its normal position.

Over time, his body has adapted, but this has resulted in a slightly shorter leg and some muscle loss on that side.

Despite this, Ace is very active and enjoys exercise, and does use the leg when walking and running. But it is something adopters will need to be aware of.

Ace is really hoping people will be able to look past his differences and focus on the most impaw-tant thing of all - his big, loving heart. 💜 Find out more about Ace below. ⬇️

Say hello to Socute, perhaps the most aptly named kitten. 🥹

Socute arrived after he was found abandoned at a train station. He was quite poorly with a bad tummy, but fortunately made a quick recovery after receiving the care he needed.

After a short stay in our care, Socute will be heading off to his forever home soon. Let's wish him the very best of luck. 💜
