🐾💼 Fun Fact Friday 💼🐾

Today is Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Now, before you picture your dog sat behind a desk replying to emails and attending meetings... let's talk about whether they'd actually enjoy coming to work with you! 😂

Here's a fun fact...

🐶 Just because a dog can go somewhere doesn't always mean they should.

Many people think dogs love being around people all the time, but the truth is every dog is different.

Some dogs would absolutely thrive in a dog-friendly workplace, happily snoozing under a desk and soaking up the attention.

Others might find it overwhelming.

Busy offices can be full of:
👥 New people
🚪 Doors opening and closing
☎️ Phones ringing
🗣 Conversations
☕ Strange noises and smells

For some dogs, that's exciting...

For others, it's a recipe for stress.

A good indicator is this:

If your dog struggles to settle in a café, pub, or busy park, they probably aren't ready for a full day in the office just yet.

The good news?

✨ Calmness is a skill that can be taught.

By gradually introducing new environments, rewarding relaxed behaviour, and building confidence at your dog's pace, many dogs can learn to settle almost anywhere.

So if your colleague turns up with a four-legged assistant today...

Don't judge them by how cute they are.

Judge them by whether they're asleep under the desk instead of trying to steal everyone's sandwiches! 😂🐶

🧺🐾 Fun Fact Friday – National Picnic Week 🐾🧺

It's National Picnic Week! 🎉

Now, judging by the weather we've been having lately, many of us are celebrating by having our picnic blankets thoroughly watered before we've even sat down... ☔😂

National Picnic Week was created to encourage people to get outdoors, enjoy nature, and spend quality time with friends and family. It celebrates a tradition that dates back hundreds of years, with picnics becoming especially popular in Britain during the Victorian era.

And let's be honest... no picnic is truly complete until a dog appears and starts conducting a detailed inspection of the food situation. 🐶👃

Which brings us to today's fun fact...

✨ Impulse control is one of the most important life skills a dog can learn.

To us, leaving a sausage roll alone might seem simple.

To your dog, it's the equivalent of someone placing a winning lottery ticket, a slice of cake, and their favourite hobby all in one place and saying:

"Don't touch." 😂

Impulse control helps dogs:
🐾 Wait patiently
🐾 Resist temptation
🐾 Make better choices
🐾 Stay calm around food, people, and distractions

And some dogs genuinely find this harder than others!

Research has shown that many Labrador Retrievers carry a genetic variation linked to increased food motivation and appetite. In simple terms, some Labradors are literally wired to think about food more often than other dogs. 🍗👀

So if you've ever owned a Labrador who could hear a packet of crisps being opened from three rooms away, there may actually be some science behind it!

The good news is that impulse control is a skill that can be trained and improved over time through games, training, and consistent practice.

So whether you're enjoying a sunny picnic, sheltering under an umbrella, or protecting your sandwich from an opportunistic four-legged food thief...

Remember that for many dogs, resisting temptation takes real effort. ❤️🐾

🌹🐾 Fun Fact Friday 🐾🌹

With it being National Red Rose Day today, here's a dog fact that might surprise you...

Dogs don't see the world in black and white—but they don't see colours the same way we do either! 👀🐶

While we see a bright red rose 🌹, your dog sees something much closer to a dull brownish-grey colour.

In fact, dogs mainly see shades of:
🔵 Blue
🟡 Yellow

Colours like red, orange, and green can be much harder for them to distinguish.

Which means that bright red ball you bought because it was easy for you to spot...

Your dog might be thinking:
"Mate, I've got no idea where it went." 😂

✨ This is one reason why many trainers and dog sports enthusiasts choose blue or yellow toys—they're often easier for dogs to see against grass and natural backgrounds.

Interestingly, in scent work, red KONGs are often used as scent articles. Because the red colour is less visually obvious to dogs, it helps encourage them to use what they're best at—their nose—rather than relying on their eyes to find the hide. 👃🐾

It's a great reminder that dogs experience the world differently from us. The things that seem obvious to us aren't always obvious to them.

So next time your dog runs straight past the toy you've thrown, they might not be ignoring you... they might just be searching in a completely different colour palette! 🎾🐕

Did you know…
For dogs, a walk is about SO much more than just exercise? 👀🐶

To us, it’s “just a walk.”
To them, it’s basically reading the news, checking social media, and catching up on local gossip all at once 😂

Every sniff gives your dog information about:
🐕 Other dogs
🦆 Wildlife
👣 Who’s been there
⏰ How long ago they passed through

That’s why “sniff walks” and exploring natural environments can be incredibly enriching and mentally tiring for dogs — sometimes even more than a fast-paced march around the block. 🌿

World Environment Day is a great reminder that nature walks benefit us and our dogs ❤️

✨ A few ways we can help protect the environments our dogs love:
• Always pick up after them
• Respect wildlife and nesting areas
• Keep dogs under control around livestock
• Leave natural spaces as we found them

Because being dog friendly also means being environment friendly 🐾🌍
