🦊 MANIC MONDAYS? — ALWAYS! 🦊
And this is a perfect example of why!
Last Monday saw 5 rescues raised in a very short space of time, keeping our responder Margo rushing from one call to the next.
Sadly, it was also a day filled with heartbreak, with three beautiful reds who would not make it home. 💔
We started with Matthew 🦊, an older fox found collapsed in a churchyard in East London. Kind members of the public had stayed with him, covering him with a towel and keeping him safe until Margo could arrive.
Matthew was rushed to Hello Vets Hackney, where it was discovered he was suffering from severe mange, anaemia and a suspected cancerous mass in his stomach.
There was nothing more that could be done for this poor boy, so Margo stayed by his side as he was helped peacefully across the 🌈 bridge. ❤️
Not long afterwards, rescue number two came in.
A collapsed cub was reported nearby and Margo was there within around 30 minutes. Sadly, little Alma 🦊 was already unresponsive and passed away peacefully on the journey to the vets. 😢
It is heartbreaking when a little fox passes away in transit, but at least Alma was somewhere quiet and comfortable, with someone caring for her, rather than left outside alone and vulnerable to the flies. 💔
Then came rescue number three…
And finally, a little bit of light. ❤️
Freya 🦊 had fallen into a lightwell and couldn’t climb back out. She was exhausted, but still had enough fight in her to make it very clear that she was NOT impressed with the rescue operation!
And actually, that was a very good sign.
Freya was taken to the Royal Veterinary College in Camden, where she was given fluids and food to help her recover. Thankfully, there were no broken bones and she was well enough to be released later that evening. 🎉🦊
But Margo hadn’t even finished waiting for Freya’s update when rescue number four came in — thankfully in the same area, meaning she could be there within around 15 minutes.
Another collapsed cub.
Casper 🦊 was rushed back to RVC Beaumont Camden, but sadly his condition was far too poor and he too was helped peacefully across the 🌈 bridge. 💔
Four rescues down… and one very battered Fox Angels heart💔
Then came our fifth call for Ozcri 🦊, a beautiful boy who appeared to have a swollen neck and was having some difficulty breathing.
Margo arrived ready to set a trap… but apparently Ozcri had other plans!
He soon appeared along with his three siblings, and thankfully his swelling had gone down. He was eating, running around and generally behaving like a perfectly happy little fox.
So, for now, no further action was needed. ❤️
And finally, Margo was able to collect our little survivor Freya and get her safely back to her lovely finder, Maria. 🦊❤️
We’re keeping the rest of Freya’s story under our hats for now… 🤫
So keep an eye out for Freya’s very own story coming soon — because this little girl definitely deserves a post all of her own! ❤️🦊
Some days are simply harder than others.
Monday was one of those days.
But although Matthew, Alma and Casper couldn’t be saved, they were not left to suffer alone. They were cared for, kept comfortable and given the kindness they deserved at the end. 🌈🌈🌈
And a huge thank you to Margo. ❤️
You spent the day rushing around London from one rescue to the next, dealing with heartbreak, saving the ones you could and making sure every single one of our precious reds had someone there for them.
You were my superhero that day, Margo. 🦸♀️🦊🧡Lola Noir 🫶🏻
Five rescues. One responder. One very long day. And an awful lot of miles covered for some very special foxes.
Rest peacefully, Matthew, Alma & Casper. 🌈
And Freya… well, she’s proof that even on the hardest of days, sometimes a little bit of light comes charging through the door with four muddy paws and an attitude. 🦊❤️
