Luna and I absolutely love our new Y-Front Assistance Dog Training Jacket from IT HAS POCKETS! ❤️

I have seen a huge difference in her comfort and confidence when wearing it vs her traditional straight front jacket. I am so grateful to Wuffable for helping me with this, it’s absolutely fantastic and I hope it will help other teams too!

The background story:
I noticed that Luna could sometimes be a bit uncomfortable wearing her training jacket. She was quite happy to put it on and walk but could then be hesitant to sit or lie down to relax whilst wearing it despite lots of training to increase her confidence with different gear.

I contacted the wonderful people at Wuffable to see if they could help and they designed this gorgeous Y-Front jacket to give greater shoulder clearance and allow for more natural and unrestricted movement.

Luna seems so much happier wearing it. She walked with confidence, sat and lay down without hesitation, and even had a little snooze. It’s really important to me that she is comfortable in her gear so I am over the moon with this result and would highly recommend this shape jacket to others.

Rowley was a very good boy during my first golf lesson yesterday. I have joined my local ladies beginner group as I am very much in need of some coaching! My (almost) mother in law has been attending for a few weeks and invited me to join her which was lovely. It was pouring with rain so we practiced some different skills at the driving range instead of going out on the course. 🏌️‍♀️⛳️

Today is my 30th birthday!🎂We went for a lovely morning walk in the woods and Rowley and Luna got to go swimming. We’re going out for lunch at one of my favourite restaurants later and tomorrow we’re having a BBQ with family to celebrate. 🥳 It doesn’t feel real to be leaving my 20s behind but I’m so excited to see what my 30s has to offer. I’m getting married in July, so I’d say it’s off to a pretty great start! Here’s to the next decade and beyond. 💕

This time last year I was waking up to this 8 week old little cutie after spending her very first night at home with us. 🏡

Luna has learned so much in her first year and my life is so much fuller for having her in it. She has helped me to cope with the loss of my soul dog, Ruby, and reassured me that when my gorgeous Rowley retires later this year I will be left in safe paws.

She has many strengths including an eagerness to learn and great task work skills. Her biggest struggles at present are calm greetings, birds and squirrels! She is now around half way through her training to become my Assistance Dog and I am so excited to see what she learns over this next year! 🐾

Nothing better than a fresh catch! 🎣 Luna and Rowley tried the new Pooch & Mutt fish jerky this afternoon and I think it’s safe to say they enjoyed it!

Using a chin rest for cooperative care - what if you need both hands?

In this video I demonstrate how I use a chin rest behaviour for cooperative care whilst keeping both of my hands free. We practiced voluntary blood draws, injections and ear drops.

We’ve been working hard on food refusal training today and I am super impressed with Luna! I left my plate of pizza crusts on the floor directly in front of her and then left the room for 4 minutes without saying anything. When I returned all crusts were present and accounted for. I am really pleased that Luna not only left the food but also chose to relax instead of just staring at the plate for the whole 4 minutes. 🤤🍕

I am also impressed with Rowley who was in the room too and didn’t try to sabotage Luna’s training by leading her astray at all! 😂

It’s important for Assistance Dogs to learn how to automatically ignore food left or found on the floor (unless specifically told that they can eat it) to keep them safe from accidental poisoning and ensure that if food is dropped in a restaurant or cafe it’s no biggie for them.
