They're invisible. Yet every year, between 110 million and 200 million animals are used in laboratory testing.

In the UK alone, around 2.6 million procedures took place in 2024.

Some animals are used for breeding or as part of control groups. Most will never leave the laboratory.

At Almo Nature, none of our foods are tested on animals.

Digestibility tests on our dry food are carried out in vitro.
We test taste in animals’ own homes, in a way that keeps them comfortable and safe.

It's time to rethink how we treat living beings and support alternatives to animal testing.

Does your cat wake you up in the middle of the night or far too early in the morning?

Meowing, running around at 3am, or even a paw in your face just when you’re desperately trying to sleep… Lots of us go through this.

In reality, your cat isn’t trying to annoy you. It’s simply following its natural rhythm.

Cats don’t follow the same sleep pattern as us, but they aren’t strictly nocturnal either. They are crepuscular animals, naturally most active at dawn and dusk, when their prey is also active.

The challenge for us is that this often overlaps with our asleep.

Your cat friend might be waking you up for several reasons:
They're hungry
They're bored or seeking attention
They've excess energy to burn

Think you’ve tried everything to stop them? Here are a few ideas to try:

• Play with your cat in the evening before bed to stimulate their hunting instinct and help tgem burn off energy
• Feed them afterwards to follow their natural cycle: hunt → eat → sleep
• Establish a routine, as regular schedules can help cats regulate their behaviour
• Enrich their environment with toys, hiding spots and activities to reduce boredome
• Ignore night-time wake ups even if it's not easy!

Give it a try and let us know how it goes!

🐦‍⬛The lapwing, a symbol of Europe's meadow birds, is now in sharp decline. Early farming practices and the loss of wetlands are putting its nests and chicks at risk.

In the Danube basin, spanning countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine, the Danube Biodiversity Corridor project, supported by Fondazione Capellino, is working to restore habitats and reconnect ecosystems, helping to protect species such as the lapwing.

This initiative began in Bavaria, Germany, along a 40 km stretch of the Große Laber and has recently been extended to 90km. It has been made possible by the Reintegration Economy, and by those who choose Almo Nature for their animal companions every day.

In the Parco Nazionale Foreste Casentinesi, Foreste Casentinesi National Park in Italy, coexistence between human activities and large predators remains a real challenge.

Since 2017, a project dedicated to livestock guardian dogs has been in place, supporting farmers and helping to reduce losses caused by attacks, through effective, sustainable solutions.

Livestock guardian dogs have long been an esssential resource in areas where farming and wolves coexist.

For this reason, the Park has developed a structured approach that promotes the balanced and responsible integration of these dogs, helping to prevent both ecological and social challenges.

Almo Nature is an active partner in this initiative. Through the Companion for Life project, we support the wellbeing of the dogs involved by providing high-quality food, ensuring they receive a complete and balanced food.

A practical commitment to building a sustainable balance between nature, farming, and the presence of large predators.

A blue whale weighs 150 tonnes.
An African elephant can weigh up to 6 tonnes.
A grizzly bear weighs over 300 kilograms.

All of these, along with every other wild mammal, make up only 4% of the total total weight of mammals.

Humans and the mammals we farm, cows, sheep, pigs, make up 96% of the total.

Just 4%.
Wild mammals make up only 4%.

We still hunt them, shrink their habitats, and remove them to make way for our activities.
As if 4% were too much.

Almo Nature and Fondazione Capellino say no.
We work to help that 4% grow again.
On the side of the wild. Always.

Did you think your cat’s whiskers were just adorable? Think again!

Whether they’re short, long or very long, whiskers, also called vibrissae, play a vital role in your cat’s life. They help cats navigate their surroundings, acting like built in sat nav.

Thanks to them, cats can:
• Detect obstacles, even in the dark
• Gauge distances
• Sense the strength and direction of the wind. For example, they position themselves upwind when hunting to help conceal their scent.

Now you can see why your cat may seem a little disoriented when they need to wear a cone!!

Kittens are adorable 🐾
But behind these cute faces lies a much harsher reality…

Every year, hundreds of thousands of kittens are born. Many arrive on the streets, without care, without food, without protection.

Shelters and charities are doing everything they can to cope with this huge influx. They work day and night, often beyond their means, with too few resources and too many lives to protect.

Sadly, many of these kittens won’t even reach their first birthday

Spaying or neutering is one of the simplest ways to help.
It reduces the number of unwanted births, giving a real chance to the kittens that are born and to the animals already waiting for a family.

It can also lower the risk of certain diseases in your cat.

Spaying or neutering your cat is a pratical step towards reducing animal suffering.
