Spectre Tiger is a very new and extremely rare Caridina shrimp, discovered as a unique mutation of the Black Fancy Tiger. It appears only once in around 50,000 Fancy Tigers, showing just how rare it truly is.

Red Wasp Caridina is a very rare shrimp that originates from Hornet shrimp, which is why it is sometimes also referred to as a Red Hornet. Like classic hornets, it features a very clean and distinct tiger pattern, but in a rich red colour and base white colour has a soft pinkish glow, similar to Sunset shrimp. Some can turn metallic when gets older especially females.

This variety was bred by KW Shrimps at his farm in Singapore and is now available in my store (link in the first comment)

I just built the largest shrimp tank I’ve ever had. As always, I made it DIY from 6mm glass. This is a massive tank that can hold 2000 to 3000 Caridina shrimp. It’s 75 × 45 × 32 cm (110L), a shallow tank with a huge floor space, which is very important for shrimp.

It will be my community grow-out and sales tank, where young shrimp are going to grow bigger. In larger tanks, shrimp grow much faster.

I set it up using the KW Shrimps method. I made a UGF filter with very coarse (20 PPI) 1 inch sponge at the bottom, followed by 2 inches of medium coarse sponge on top. It will be able to hold a very large population of beneficial bacteria. Moreover, I installed two sponge filters on either side.

I used ADA Amazonia Version 1 for this setup with only a 1 inch (2.5 to 3 cm) layer. That may not sound like much, but I used nearly 4 litres of soil in this setup. From my experience, a thinner layer works better, with less chance of building up toxic dead zones over time in the UGF and better flow through the soil, meaning better buffering. Over time, I can slowly top up fresh soil into the UGF once the pH starts to rise.

So now comes the hardest part, we just need to wait approximately 6 to 8 weeks for the tank to cycle 😊
