I hate fireworks night. For us it started a month ago and will go on until beyond February. We’ve got a pretty good protocol in place, which includes wonderful meds for the little Grub.

Knowing when and how to refer clients onto a trainer, vet or behaviourist with more specific knowledge is one of the most important things I do.

This dog’s mum came to me explaining his complex medical background and history, but wanted to get started whilst I assessed his behaviour.

After our first session she still wanted some hands on help with her dog to see how to help him manage whilst they wait for a referral. So we did one more session in person to work on his arousal and building some routines and management to make sure they’re both able to exist whilst they wait for more specialist help.

It horrifies me that there are thousands of trainers out there that would see this dog as “difficult” or “dominant” and reach for tools that will cause fear and pain.

No dog needs a heavy hand. If your trainer is reaching for punishment they should probably look for a therapist and a new job.
