🚫 URGENT RABBIT HEALTH ALERT – BEDFORDSHIRE & HERTFORDSHIRE 🚫
Please share to help protect local rabbits.

We’ve received reports of Myxomatosis (Mixi) and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Variant 2 (RHD2) circulating in nearby areas (MK, Northamptonshire). These diseases spread quickly, are often fatal, and can reach pet rabbits even if they never go outside.

💉 Vaccination is the ONLY reliable protection.
If your rabbits aren’t fully up to date, please book their vaccinations as soon as possible.

🐇 How these diseases spread:
• Biting insects (fleas, flies, mosquitoes)
• Contaminated surfaces, hutches, bowls, hay bags
• On clothing, shoes, or hands after being outdoors
• Contact with wild rabbits or their environment

🛡️ How to protect your rabbits:
• Keep vaccinations fully up to date (Mixi + RHD1/RHD2)
• Use insect screens on hutches and runs
• Clean bowls, litter trays, and hutches regularly
• Change clothes/shoes after walking in fields or parks
• Avoid foraging wild plants during outbreaks
• Keep outdoor rabbits away from areas with wild rabbit activity

❤️ If you notice symptoms (swelling around eyes, lethargy, bleeding, sudden collapse), contact a vet immediately.

Unfortunately no one came forward as the owners of these beautiful girls. They have been named Amber and Ruby by their fosterer and will be up for adoption soon. Anyone interested can complete an adoption form on our web page or by DM us here 🫶
