Feeding the babies this morning brought back so many memories of the first litter I ever raw weaned — my first German Shepherd litter 🐾
Back then there really wasn’t much premade raw food around, so I did everything myself.
I’d go to the butchers and buy chicken mince, beef mince, chicken liver, kidneys, whole tripe, chicken drumsticks and wings, then come home, get the scales out and portion everything up before freezing it.
My kitchen honestly looked like a little dog food factory 😂
I was spending around £100 every 3 days at the butchers feeding that litter, but looking back, I’m actually really grateful I had to do it that way because it taught me so much.
I learned about different cuts, organs, bone, portions and how to build meals from scratch rather than just opening a tub.
Raw feeding is so much easier now with all the brilliant complete foods available, but I’ll always appreciate those early days because they gave me the knowledge and confidence I still use today — especially when helping customers and weaning my own litters.
Funny how feeding a bowl of food can bring so many memories flooding back.
And that mama dog right there, she taught me more about dogs than I ever thought I needed to know, and god do I miss her ❤️🐶
