Roll up roll up, Mushroom Yard Sale!

With the recent weather conditions of wet wet wet followed by hot temperatures we’ve had an absolute bonanza of mushroom growth! Therefore we are having a bank holiday sale tomorrow Sunday 24th May and these mushrooms are absolutely crying to be chucked on your BH barbecues.

Ed is tinkering away on his campervan all weekend and so has agreed to sell the mushrooms from home/out the back of the van - think of it like a lemonade stand 😂

Bargain prices are in place:
Mixed oyster 500g - £7
Mixed oyster 1kg - £13

King oyster 500g - £8.50
King oyster 1kg - £15

They take heat and flavour like no tomorrow. A little warning though - cook these mushrooms on your BBQ and you’ll have your auntie saying ‘I can’t believe these are mushrooms!!’ all evening 😅

We had a great time last week leading a group of 25 horticulture students aged 16-52 from on a foraging tour around Meanwood Park and The Hollies with our head forager Elliot.

Hopefully we showed them that a lot of the plants that are usually seen as ‘weeds’ in conventional gardening can actually be super delicious nutritious and useful. We also got to see and interact with the most deadly plant in the UK - Water Dropwort. If you see a plant growing in the stream at Meanwood Park that looks like Parsley/Celery do not eat it! ☠️‼️

Two trolleys of the finest handmade, local, Yorkshire oyster mushrooms glistening in the sunshine and waiting to explode in the fruiting room 😅🔥🍄‍🟫

We’ve been inoculating two of these trolleys - 150 bags, 480kg total weight- for the past year or so but are now progressing to three per week, as well as all our other species.

The bags might not look like sexy mushrooms but without these solid blocks of healthy, well-fed mycelium, you wouldn’t grow any mushrooms and so nurturing these blocks and keeping the mycelium happy is really the bed rock of what we do.
