New chicken breeds available from July 2026

We have some lovely ginger hybrid hens available from 7th June 2026. This will be the last BIG batch of the ISA Brown/Bovan Brown hybrids for this year unfortunately.

As many of you who are in regular contact with us may know, my rearer along with many other rearers throughout the country, have struggled to get the ginger hybrid chicks since Covid, and now one of the two largest ginger hybrid hatcheries has had a salmonella outbreak, there will be an even greater shortage for a while to come.

Therefore we have made the decision to go back to selling the beautiful variety of ‘coloured hybrid hens’ I we sold previously. So for all of you out there who were GREATLY disappointed I stopped selling the coloured hybrid hens, well WE ARE BACK and stocking them again from July 2026 onwards.

Southmead Poultry would not be the same without some lovely POL hens for sale, so from July 2026 and into 2027 here are the breeds we are offering for sale:-

• Belle Blue – similar breeds Blue Ranger, Belle, Blue Haze – Grey hen
• Barred Rock – similar looking breeds CouCou, Coucou Maran – black/white speckled hen
• Sussex Hybrid – similar looking Light Sussex, Sussex Star – white hen with Columbian markings
• Red Ranger – similar breeds Blacktails, Columbian Blacktails, Babcock – burgundy bird with black tail (good egg layer)
• Maran Cuirvree – similar breeds Cuvree, Maran – black bird with gold/copper markings
• ISA Brown/Bovan Brown – similar breeds, Bovan, Warren, Lohmann, Gingernut, Shaver.

We will still have a few ginger hybrids going forward in 2026 BUT but not in the large quantities we originally had.

I am pleased to report our ginger hybrid rearer has their order in for some chicks at the hatchery, so fingers crossed from March 2027 onwards, we will have some of our lovely ISA Brown/Bovan Brown hens available again at POL.

Omlet have just released a smaller 5.5ltr Insulated tripod drinker (with 3 drinking outlets).

The measurements of the new 5.5L drinker are:-
- with handle down 49cm
- with handle up on legs; 63.5cm
- width at widest point 31cm

The larger 11ltr insulated tripod drinker has 6 drinking outlets and the measurements are:-
- with handle down 55cm
- width at widest point 39cm
